Participation of TNMU Professor in the European Society for Immunodeficiencies Congress
From October 16-19, 2024, the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) congress took place in Marseille, France. This event brought together leading immunology experts worldwide to share recent advances and discuss current issues related to primary immunodeficiencies. Over 2,500 participants from 94 countries attended the congress, which featured 96 scientific sessions and 436 presentations.
Head of the Pediatrics with Pediatric Surgery Department, Professor Oksana Boyarchuk, joined other Ukrainian immunologists at the congress and co-authored three poster presentations. These addressed neonatal screening results in Ukraine, a cohort study on Nijmegen syndrome, and the impact of war on patients in Ukraine.
The presentation on the expanded neonatal screening results for SCID in Ukraine drew particular interest.

Participants had the opportunity to explore the latest research, discuss challenges, and establish new professional connections. Many presentations focused on new genetic variants and diseases discovered in the past two years. Innovative treatment methods for primary immunodeficiencies were prominently featured, including biological therapies, CD19 CAR T, gene therapy, gene editing, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for severe immunodeficiency disorders.
Professor Boyarchuk also met with Professor Jolan Walter (USA) to discuss future collaboration within the Fulbright Program.
Additionally, discussions were held with Professor Shen-Ying Zhang (USA, France) and other colleagues regarding collaboration in studying the immunological and genetic characteristics of severe viral and bacterial infections.

Professor Boyarchuk thanked the TNMU administration for the opportunity to attend the congress and the Jeffrey Modell Foundation for providing a grant.
