Practical Rehabilitation Session for TNMU Students
On December 23, 2024, a one-day practical session took place at the National Rehabilitation Center “Unbroken,” organized by the Outlook_Ukraine team and the First Medical Association of Lviv for students of Ternopil National Medical University. The event featured theoretical and practical components, providing participants with an in-depth exploration of modern physical therapy and rehabilitation medicine and the opportunity to apply their skills in a real clinical setting.

Key Stages of the Session:
Tour of the Prosthetics and Orthotics Center led by its director and physical therapist, Vladyslav Sikhovskyi. Participants learned about all stages and technologies in producing upper and lower limb prostheses designed to restore patients’ activity and quality of life.

Lecture on the Multidisciplinary Approach of the Rehabilitation Team titled “The Importance of a Multidisciplinary Approach in Patient Treatment and Rehabilitation,” delivered by Oleh Bilyanskyi, the director of the National Rehabilitation Center.
Practical Stations, where TNMU students gained hands-on experience in various aspects of rehabilitation work:
Roksoliana Shmilo, Physical Therapist – “Types of Rehabilitation.”
Andriy Novosad, Physical Therapist – “Features of Physical Therapy for Patients with Neurotrauma (SCI and TBI).”
Rostyslav Mastelyak, Physical Therapist – “Spinal Injury Rehabilitation.”
Khrystyna Tsap, Assistant Physical Therapist – “Polytrauma and Amputations.”
Yaroslav Zelizko, Physician in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine – “Orthopedics.”

This segment was particularly valuable as students applied theoretical knowledge in practice and observed the operations of a multidisciplinary team.
Students also attended several lectures:
Oleh Bereziuk and Eveliya Bilska – “PTSD and Neurorehabilitation.”
Andriy Novosad – “Features of Physical Therapy in Patients after Amputation.”
Khrystyna Tsap – “Physical Therapy in Reconstructive Surgery in Acute and Post-Acute Phases” (clinical case analysis).

Participation and Impact
41 TNMU students from various programs, including Medicine, Dentistry, and Physical Therapy, participated in the event. Students from the “Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy” program at S. Z. Gzhytskyi Lviv National University of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies also joined.
The training session helped participants understand the specifics of working in rehabilitation medicine, highlighted the advantages of a multidisciplinary approach, and emphasized that effective rehabilitation requires knowledge, empathy, patience, and teamwork.
