A student of Ternopil National Medical University conducted an interactive online lesson for students studying in a war zone
First-year Medical Faculty student (MM-118) Kateryna Finashko held a remote lesson for 9th-grade students of Svesa Specialized School No. 2, located in a war zone. The lesson was organized as an online conference, enabling children studying in challenging conditions to receive high-quality and accessible explanations of an important topic.
The lesson’s topic was “Cell Division. Meiosis.” During the lesson, the students learned about:
The mechanisms that ensure genetic diversity in offspring.
What cell division is and the main stages of meiosis;
How the reduction of chromosome numbers in cells occurs and why this is crucial for sexual reproduction;

Kateryna Finashko connected the lesson topic to medicine, explaining that disruptions in meiosis processes can lead to genetic abnormalities and highlighting the importance of understanding meiosis for geneticists. She also discussed with the students the role of studying cell division in developing methods for treating oncological diseases.

To reinforce the material, the students participated in an interactive Kahoot! game, which helped them engage in the material. The game sparked interest, promoted teamwork, and encouraged active participation in the lesson.

The lesson not only deepened students’ knowledge of biology but also demonstrated the importance of science for medicine and human health.
