TNMU Recognizes Outstanding Students
Ternopil National Medical University has been running the “Student of the Year” project for many years. At the end of each calendar year, a competition is held to award students in the following categories:
- “For Excellent Academic Achievements”
- “For Significant Achievements in Scientific Work” (I. Horbachevskyi Award)
- “For Active Civic Engagement”
- “For Significant Contributions to Cultural Development”
- “For Significant Achievements in Sports”
- “For Active Volunteer Activity”
The competition is open to full-time students from the 1st to 6th years who demonstrate high academic performance, conduct scientific research, and actively participate in university life.

To participate, students submit a completed application form and copies of documents confirming their accomplishments (diplomas, awards, certificates, acknowledgments, scientific articles, or patents) to the TNMU Center for Educational Work and Cultural Development.
This year, the awards ceremony took place on January 28, 2025, during the regular meeting of the TNMU Academic Council. Certificates of recognition were presented by the university’s Rector, Professor Mykhailo Korda, who wished the students further achievements, success, and peace in Ukraine.

Winners of 2024:
- “For Excellent Academic Achievements”
The award went to Bohdan Yurchenko, a second-year student of the Medical Faculty, who achieved the highest academic score of 191.08 points.

“For Significant Achievements in Scientific Work” (I. Horbachevsky Award)
The winner was Viktoriia Miroshnyk, a fifth-year student in the medical faculty. Viktoriia published three peer-reviewed English-language articles, one Ukrainian-language professional article, and eight abstracts presented at the Congress of Young Scientists. She also serves as the head of TNMU’s Scientific Society of Students.

“For Active Civic Engagement”
This award was given to Kyrylo Barna, a third-year student of the Faculty of Dentistry.

“For Significant Contributions to Cultural Development”
Anton Shupa, a sixth-year student in the medical faculty, was recognized in this category. Anton is the director of the TNMU choir and a former member of the theatrical studio “Art-Drama.”

“For Significant Achievements in Sports”
Dmytro Perets, a second-year student specializing in Therapy and Rehabilitation, won. Dmytro is a professional freestyle skier, a member of Ukraine’s youth national team, and a Master of Sports of Ukraine. He participated in the IV Winter Youth Olympic Games and was recognized by the Ternopil City Council for his exceptional contributions to sports.

“For Active Volunteer Activity”
Sofiia Berehulyak received the award in this category. Sofia leads projects such as “Student Hryvnia” in cooperation with the Ukrainian Volunteer Service and “Infovolunteering.” She is a member of the Youth City Council, the head of the Student Parliament, an organizer of the city’s charity ball, and the leader of the MAVT volunteer community.
