Charitable Support for the Simulation Training Laboratory for Prosthetists-Orthotists

I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University continues to expand opportunities for high-quality training of future prosthetists-orthotists. Thanks to the charitable support of the nonprofit social enterprise Penta, our university has received equipment for the simulation training laboratory, enabling students to effectively master the techniques of fitting prosthetic and orthotic devices.

The received prosthetic and orthopedic models—including hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic knee joints, universal feet, bionic upper limb prostheses of various types, and other equipment—will be placed in the simulation training laboratory. Using these prosthetic devices, students will study the components of prosthetic constructions, learn assembly techniques, and practice adjusting and adapting them to individual patient needs. The hands-on training with this equipment will help students gain essential practical skills, preparing them for real-life prosthetic procedures. This initiative is particularly important given the growing demand for qualified specialists in prosthetics and orthotics, especially for patients affected by war.

Penta repurposes used and surplus medical equipment from the United States to provide high-quality, affordable assistance to people with limb loss worldwide. The organization collects donations in minimally used, surplus, unsold, and excess prosthetic and orthotic equipment that is still functional, gathering supplies from all corners of the U.S.

Through a flexible logistics model, Penta has met the urgent and long-term needs of amputees in Ukraine. In the first weeks of the war, Penta was one of the first organizations in the field of prosthetics and orthotics to respond, delivering hundreds of prosthetic and orthotic devices and limb stabilization equipment. Since then, the company has actively participated in various initiatives to support Ukrainian amputees, from direct equipment shipments to restoring long-term prosthetic care capabilities.

The university expresses its sincere gratitude to Penta for the donated prosthetic and orthotic devices and to DTCare chair Courtney Robson and Mykhailo Semenovykh for transporting the shipment to Ukraine. We sincerely appreciate your support of education and contribution to developing modern prosthetics and orthotics in Ukraine!
