To Support, Explain, Inspire: TNMU Students Once Again Visited Ternopil Classical Lyceum with Educational Lectures
Medical faculty students Dmytro Oliinyk and Ivan Kalinka delivered a lecture to eighth-grade students on the topic “The Impact of War on the Environment”, highlighting the devastating consequences of warfare for nature. In a clear and accessible way, students learned about ecological disasters related to the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, flooding of mines in the Donbas, emissions from chemical plants, mass deaths of animals, and how everyone can contribute — even in wartime — to protecting the environment. Their presentation included real-life examples, up-to-date statistics, and a call to ecological responsibility.

Particular excitement was sparked by the interactive game “Eco-Detective,” in which students, divided into teams, solved environmental challenges by choosing the right actions in situations related to waste management, resource conservation, and nature protection. The activity not only made the meeting more engaging but also allowed students to apply their knowledge in practice, showcasing their creativity and teamwork.

Meanwhile, medical students Mariia Fedoruk and Sofiia Bukovska met with 10th-grade students to discuss an incredibly important topic: “Autism – Understand, Support, Respect.” Through a thoughtful presentation and an English-language video sharing the stories of famous individuals with autism, they explained what the autism spectrum is, how to approach it without stereotypes, and why empathy and acceptance must be the foundation of our attitude toward “otherness.” The lecture sparked genuine interest, with students asking questions and sharing their own reflections.

These meetings are invaluable not only as educational events but also as a dialogue between young people and future medical professionals who already care about socially significant topics. They foster responsibility, empathy, and readiness to take action — both professionally and personally.

We sincerely thank the administration of the Ternopil Classical Lyceum for the warm welcome and the students for their compassion, professionalism, and deep humanity in sharing their knowledge. Initiatives like these help shape the worldview of new generations and bring attention to topics that deserve understanding, support, and a voice.
