Exploring the History of Pharmacy: Future Pharmacists Discover the Legacy of Gedeon Richter
On May 26, 2025, Associate Professors Olena Pokotylo and Anastasiia Dub from the Department of Pharmacy Management and Drug Technology, together with the 4th year students, attended a vibrant cultural and artistic event “European Kaleidoscope: Hungarian Colors”. The event took place at Podoliany Shopping Mall as part of Europe Days in Ternopil.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Hungary in Ukraine (Magyarország Nagykövetsége, Kijev) and the Honorary Consulate of Hungary in Ternopil. It brought together the Hungarian community named after Ferenc Rákóczi, representatives of 18 national minorities, local authorities, libraries, university students, and schoolchildren.
The program featured the photo project “Dance Is My Love” by János Eifert, the exhibition “Magical World” by Kato Lukacs, the display “Old Cafés of Budapest”, and concluded with the documentary film “The Legacy of Gedeon Richter”. For the attendees, it was more than just a cultural introduction to Hungarian heritage—it was an immersive experience into the history of one of the pioneers of pharmacy.

Today, Gedeon Richter Plc. is a vertically integrated pharmaceutical group offering over two hundred medicines for the treatment of cardiovascular and neurological diseases, as well as women’s health. Its core legacy is the belief in science and humanity, instilled by its founder.
After the film screening, students engaged in a discussion with their professors about the importance of historical research in pharmacy and the impact of outstanding individuals in shaping the profession. The event served as a reminder that behind every medical breakthrough stands a person with dreams, challenges, and an unwavering desire to help others.
