A Day Without Gadgets: “Offline Mental Hygiene” at the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology, and Medical Psychology

On May 28, 2025, the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology, and Medical Psychology, in collaboration with the Ternopil Regional Psychoneurological Hospital, held a themed event as part of the nationwide program “How Are You?” initiated by Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska.

The aim of the event was to draw attention to the impact of digital overload on mental health and to demonstrate practical ways of reducing informational noise. The day was symbolically titled “Offline Mental Hygiene.”

The program included:

  • Physical activity practices
  • Breathing exercises
  • Mindfulness and awareness techniques
  • In-person communication without the use of gadgets

Participants experienced the benefits of unplugging from screens: improved mood, reduced anxiety, and restored mental balance. Many shared that even a short time spent “offline” gave them a sense of internal clarity and renewal.

This day became another important step in fostering a culture of mental well-being — a key focus of the “How Are You?” program.

Mental hygiene is not a luxury — it’s a necessity.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is simply to turn off the phone.

We sincerely thank all participants and partners for their active engagement, openness, and genuine willingness to grow and change for the better!
