TNMU Representatives Took Part in a Practical Workshop on Media, Information, and AI Literacy

On July 18, 2025, an offline workshop “MIL Navigator: Practical Intensive on Media, Information, and AI Literacy” was held in Ternopil. The event was organized by the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law with the support of UNESCO and the Government of Japan. It brought together educators, managers, lawyers, and information security experts from various regions of Ukraine.

Ternopil National Medical University was represented by Associate Professor Andrii Mashtalir, Head of the Academic Office, Andrii Hospodarskyi, Associate Professor of the Department of Surgery No. 2, and Volodymyr Radchuk, Head of the Internal Assurance of Higher Education Quality Department. Participants had the opportunity to learn from colleagues’ experiences and modern approaches to educational management in the field of media and AI literacy.

The program focused on three critical topics of the modern information society:

  • development of media and information literacy (MIL);
  • understanding the role of AI in combating disinformation;
  • building critical thinking skills in the age of AI.

During the first session, participants, together with Iryna Subota, Center for Democracy and Rule of Law project manager in the field of media and information literacy and countering disinformation, discussed how media and information literacy helps navigate the digital space, critically assess information sources, and develop analytical skills.

The second lecture, delivered by Oleksandr Monastyrskyi, an analyst and trainer at the Center for Democracy and Rule of Law in countering disinformation, was dedicated to the use of AI as both a tool for efficiency and a source of fake content risks. Special attention was paid to recognizing and countering manipulative AI-generated content.

In the third part of the workshop, Olha Petriv, a Center for Democracy and Rule of Law lawyer, AI expert, and member of the Expert Committee at the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, introduced participants to approaches for developing responsible critical thinking when interacting with AI, as well as ethical aspects of its use in education, healthcare, and management.

The program concluded with informal networking, allowing participants to establish professional connections.

For TNMU representatives, participation in this event was an opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues and gain insights into integrating media and AI literacy into the university’s educational process.
