Assistant of the Department of Emergency and Simulation Medicine of TNMU Completed an Internship under the Erasmus+ KA171 Academic Mobility Program

From June 1 to July 31, 2025, Alina Tomkiv, assistant of the Department of Emergency and Simulation Medicine at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and a postgraduate student specializing in Nursing, participated in the Erasmus+ KA171 academic mobility program at the Medical University of Warsaw (Poland).

The internship took place under the supervision of Professor Łukasz Czyżewski and Professor Robert Gałązkowski (head of the mobile medical safety team of the Polish Medical Air Rescue Service). The program included educational, clinical, and scientific components focused on advanced training in the fields of emergency medical care and advanced nursing practice.

During the educational part of the internship, Alina Tomkiv took part in the practical training of paramedic students, developed simulation scenarios with structured debriefing using video and audio analysis. This was aimed at developing clinical thinking and teamwork skills.

The clinical part of the program involved internships in the emergency medical services system as part of mobile emergency teams in the city of Siedlce and with the Polish Medical Air Rescue Service (Lotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe). A significant part of the practical experience was also gained at the Pediatric Hospital of the Medical University of Warsaw (Szpital Pediatryczny WUM), particularly in the emergency department, where Alina Tomkiv worked in the red zone, providing care at the early hospital stage.

In the field of nursing, she completed internships at the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at Czerniakowski Hospital (Szpital Czerniakowski), as well as at the Central Clinical Hospital (Centralny Szpital Kliniczny) of the Medical University of Warsaw, based in the Clinic of Cardiac, Thoracic, and Transplant Surgery. Acting as a nurse anesthetist, she participated in surgical procedures, monitored patients’ conditions, and improved her skills in accordance with critical care protocols.

The scientific part of the internship included participation in seminars led by Dr. Lena Serafin (PhD), Associate Professor of the Department of Clinical Nursing at the Medical University of Warsaw. The seminars covered modern methodologies of quantitative and qualitative research in nursing, aspects of academic publishing, cultural adaptation of research instruments, and ethical approaches to research. Future prospects for inter-institutional collaboration were discussed, particularly concerning joint research projects and publications in international journals.
