Professor of TNMU Became a Participant of the “Science-Policy Integration Program: Researcher Training”

On September 15–16, 2025, with a live meeting of all participants, the hybrid course Science-Policy Integration Program: Researcher Training was launched, designed specifically for Ukrainian researchers.

This 2.5-month program is the first initiative within the Science and Innovation Fund for Ukraine of the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), aimed at supporting Ukrainian science at the international level.

Professor of Ternopil National Medical University, Oksana Shevchuk, is one of the winners of the competitive selection and represents not only our university but also the Scientific Committee of the National Council of Ukraine on Science and Technology Development, of which she has been a member since 2023.

The goal of the program is to help researchers develop practical skills for effective interaction with the policy-making environment. Participants will learn how to transform their research findings into a format that is understandable and useful for decision-makers.

The program is designed to build sustainable connections between the scientific community and the policy-making sector in Ukraine. It will help researchers contribute to addressing societal challenges by applying their expertise to policy development, as well as create a space of trust between researchers and policymakers.

Participants will explore how science can inform policy-making, what tools of policy engagement are effective, and will also have the opportunity to interact with colleagues and practitioners from Ukraine and abroad.

The main lecturer and mentor is Vladimír Šucha, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Fund, who has many years of experience in top positions within EU structures. His extensive background includes leadership roles at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, DG Education and Culture, as well as heading the Slovak Research and Development Agency. He combines political expertise with a strong academic background.

These were two extremely intense days that brought new acquaintances, transformed the vision and understanding of interaction between researchers and policymakers. Knowledge is power. And it is knowledge that can change society, shape a new culture of decision-making, and open the way to a sustainable future.
