TNMU Scientists Ranked in the TOP 2%

An updated version of the TOP 2% scientists list has been released — an annual ranking of the most influential (or most cited) researchers in the world, compiled by scholars from Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.

The ranking includes scientists whose research papers are the most in-demand and relevant to other researchers, as evidenced by a high number of citations.

How the ranking is formed:

  • It is based on comprehensive scientometric data collected from databases such as Scopus.
  • It evaluates citation metrics (the number of references to a researcher’s work) and other indicators reflecting the impact of scientific research.

Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields according to the standard Science-Metrix classification. Percentiles are also considered by fields and subfields for all researchers who have at least five publications. Career-long data are updated until the end of 2024, while single-year data reflect citations received during the 2024 calendar year.

Selection is based on either the top 100,000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or those in the top 2% by percentile ranking within their subfield. The latest version is based on Scopus data as of August 1, 2025.

This year, two scientists from Ternopil National Medical University were ranked in the TOP 2%:

  • Professor Oksana Boyarchuk in the field of Pediatrics (Clinical Medicine),
  • Professor Dmytro Vakulenko in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing (Engineering).
