TNMU Received the Highest Rating Based on the Results of State Accreditation

Last year, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine began implementing a new model of state accreditation, according to which the funding of research institutions will be carried out. During the celebration of World Science Day on November 12, 2025, the Ministry presented the interim results of this initiative.

Ternopil National Medical University received an “A” category certificate in the biomedical profile. TNMU is the only university in Ternopil to receive the highest category.

Over the past year, the Ministry has accredited more than 500 institutions and higher education establishments across six scientific fields: agricultural and veterinary sciences, social sciences, engineering and technology, natural and mathematical sciences, biomedical sciences, and humanities and arts. Twenty-three research institutions that underwent the initial round of accreditation and demonstrated the highest efficiency have already received additional baseline funding. Starting from January 1, 2026, another 158 accredited research institutions and 110 higher education institutions will receive such funding.

The new formula for supporting science will take effect in 2026 and will determine the proportions of funding depending on the research area:

for the humanities: 20% for modern equipment, 18% for overhead costs, 62% for salaries and other expenditures;

for natural sciences: 35% for modern equipment, 18% for overhead costs, 47% for salaries.

Nearly 3 billion UAH has been allocated for this purpose in the draft State Budget for 2026. This will enable researchers to increase their salaries, modernize laboratories, and attract young scientists.

In addition, several new coefficients have been introduced: a 20% increase for experimental fields requiring expensive equipment; regional support for institutions located in frontline communities; and additional funding for institutions relocated from temporarily occupied territories. The process of creating the National System of Researchers of Ukraine is also underway. This system will support more than 2,600 scientists, including young researchers who will receive monthly scholarships of up to 10,000 UAH to develop their projects in Ukraine.
