Synergy of Pharmaceutical Education and Practice: TNMU Institute of Pharmacy Associate Professors Organized an Educational Project Supported by ARTERIUM Corporation

On November 25, 2025, students of grades 9–11 from Zbarazh Lyceum No. 1, I. Franko Ternopil Academic Lyceum “Ukrainian Gymnasium”, as well as Ternopil Specialized Schools No. 3, 5, and 29 took part in a career-orientation project organized by the faculty of the Institute of Pharmacy of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University — “PharmaPRO: Feel Like a TNMU Student”. The event was held with the financial support of the pharmaceutical corporation ARTERIUM.

Students had the opportunity to attend a series of master classes.
At the “Secrets of Handmade Technology” section (Department of Pharmacy Management and Economics with Drug Technology, section curator: Assoc. Prof. Oksana Barna), participants learned about the technological stages involved in producing therapeutic and cosmetic products. They prepared a moisturizing cream by weighing, dissolving, melting, and emulsifying the ingredients, adding fragrance, and packaging the final product. Each participant also created a personalized scented soap using a soap base, dried flowers, glitter, dyes, and fragrances.

At the “Magic Chemistry” section (Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, section curator — Assoc. Prof. Liudmyla Mosula), students reviewed chemistry fundamentals, names and valencies of chemical elements, which enabled them to perform a number of qualitative reactions for cations and anions, analyze mixtures of crystalline salts, and identify anions with a minimal number of reagents. The students felt like real researchers—enthusiastically carrying out reactions, recalling their mechanisms, and learning about the State Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine and pharmacopoeial reactions for ions found in medicinal substances of inorganic and organic origin.

At the “Pharma Inside” section (Department of Pharmacy Management and Economics with Drug Technology, section curator — Assoc. Prof. Olena Pokotylo), senior students learned the basics of ATC drug classification, rules for accepting prescriptions, and practiced identifying errors in incorrectly completed prescriptions. They calculated the control digits of barcodes on drug packages and analyzed pharmaceutical goods by manufacturer, dosage form, and dosage. In the departmental simulation center “Teaching Pharmacy”, students reviewed temperature and humidity measurement techniques and learned to determine these parameters using VIT-1 and VIT-2 psychrometric hygrometers. Using the “Paracelsus” pharmacy software, students observed the process of receiving pharmaceutical goods and dispensing medications, experiencing the role of a pharmacist. In the medical devices training room, they practiced measuring temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation, and explored the range and components of tonometers, inhalers, and irrigators.

At the end of the event, participants received memorable gifts and certificates. In their feedback, students noted that the master classes were a bright and meaningful experience. They gained a clearer understanding of the specialty “Pharmacy” and had the chance to personally feel the atmosphere of student life at TNMU. The project’s success and high level of youth interest are reflected in the students’ desire to attend similar educational activities in the future.

The project organizers express sincere gratitude to the administration of ARTERIUM Corporation for their charitable support, to the TNMU administration, to the Director of the Institute of Pharmacy Dmytro Korobko, to the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry Prof. Liliia Lohoyda, and to the Head of the Department of Pharmacy Management and Economics with Drug Technology Assoc. Prof. Mariana Demchuk for their assistance in conducting the engaging and productive career-orientation project “PharmaPRO: Feel Like a TNMU Student”.
