Meeting with Prosthetics and Orthotics Students: Academic Integrity Made Simple and Clear

As part of the Academic Integrity Week at TNMU, a meeting was held with students of the “Prosthetics and Orthotics” specialty to discuss academic ethics.

The Head of the Center for Academic Integrity, Associate Professor Iryna Stechyshyn, and the guarantor of the “Prosthetics and Orthotics” educational program, Professor Tetiana Bakaliuk, participated in a discussion on issues of academic virtues, the impact of integrity on the quality of education, and future professional activities. They talked about honesty, responsibility, transparency, respect for others’ work, as well as professional ethics, which is especially important for future specialists who will work with patients.

Students familiarized themselves with key legislative requirements, in particular the Law of Ukraine “On Education,” and reviewed the core principles of integrity in learning:

  • honest completion of assignments;
  • proper citation;
  • absence of plagiarism and data fabrication;
  • responsibility for one’s own work;
  • adherence to ethical norms when interacting with instructors and patients during practice.

Using practical examples, students examined typical situations that may arise during their studies: from the temptation to use artificial intelligence without proper disclosure to inappropriate collaboration in group assignments. They discussed how to act with integrity in each of these situations.
