TNMU Selects the Best Students of 2025
For many years, Ternopil National Medical University has been implementing the project “Best Student of the Year.” At the end of each calendar year, a competition is held to determine the winners in the following nominations: “For Excellent Academic Achievement,” “For Significant Achievements in Research” (I. Horbachevsky Award), “For Active Civic Engagement,” “For Significant Achievements in Cultural Development,” “For Significant Achievements in Sports,” and “For Active Volunteer Activity.” Full-time students in years 1–6 with high academic performance, involvement in research activities, and active participation in university life are eligible to participate in the competition.

To participate, students submit a completed application form to the Center for Educational Work and Cultural Development of TNMU, along with copies of documents confirming their achievements (diplomas, awards, certificates, letters of appreciation, scientific publications, patents).

The award ceremony for the winners took place on January 27, 2026, during a scheduled meeting of the Academic Council of Ternopil National Medical University. Certificates of appreciation were presented by the Acting Rector of TNMU, Mykhailo Korda, who wished the students continued success and peace for Ukraine.

In the nomination “For Excellent Academic Achievement,” the commission selected Myroslav Fedorovych, a sixth-year student of the Medical Faculty, whose academic score amounted to 190.9 points, as the winner.

In the nomination “For Significant Achievements in Research” (I. Horbachevsky Award), the winner was Sofiia Chorna, a fifth-year student of the Medical Faculty. She is the recipient of three first-degree diplomas and three second-degree diplomas and the author of four professional scientific publications.

In the nomination “For Significant Achievements in Cultural Development,” the winner was Tetiana Shevchuk, a fifth-year student of the Medical Faculty. Since 2022, she has been actively involved in the university’s creative life; since 2023, she has served as the head of a student creative group and has organized numerous university concerts and student events at the TNMU Mental Health Center.

The winner in the nomination “For Significant Achievements in Sports” was Olha Tataryn, a third-year student of the Medical Faculty majoring in Therapy and Rehabilitation. She has been professionally engaged in artistic gymnastics for 16 years at the Y. Horaiskyi Ternopil Youth Sports School No. 2, has earned the title of Master of Sports, and has won numerous prizes at various championships.

The title of best student in the nomination “For Active Volunteer Activity” was awarded to Bohdan Sakhniuk, a fourth-year student of the Medical Faculty. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he has been a volunteer with the Rapid Response Unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society in the Ternopil region. He has actively participated in providing emergency medical care and humanitarian assistance during missile strike responses and other emergencies; in receiving evacuation trains with wounded servicemen; in transporting people with limited mobility and vulnerable population groups; and in duty shifts during mass sports and public events. He is also a co-founder of the “RedLine” blood donor community, which promotes voluntary and regular blood donation among young people and the medical community.

In the nomination “For Active Civic Engagement,” the winner was Luka Lekhnovskyi, a sixth-year student of the Medical Faculty. On February 25, 2022, he was mobilized into a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a combat medic. In the spring of 2023, he was demobilized and resumed his studies, and since July 2025, he has been serving under contract in a reconnaissance unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
