TNMU Expands Cooperation with the Chortkiv “House of Mercy”: Free Dental and Psychiatric Care for Children
Since September 2018, I. Ya. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University (TNMU) has been continuing systematic cooperation with the “House of Mercy” in the city of Chortkiv, where children in need of medical support and care are under the guardianship of the Buchach Eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC).

Coordination of the medical component of the partnership is ensured by Stepan Zaporozhan, under whose supervision the Dental Department and the Mental Health Center operate.

Within the framework of the partnership, specialists from the university clinic regularly provide medical treatment and diagnostic services to the children residing at the institution. A separate area of cooperation is free dental care: the university’s dental unit offers children the necessary consultations and treatment.

The initiative has now been joined by the TNMU Mental Health Center, established in November 2025. As part of the Center’s activities, children from the House of Mercy receive free psychiatric and psychological consultations, both via telemedicine and during on-site visits by specialists to Chortkiv.

Another important area of cooperation, facilitated by the ruling hierarchy of the Buchach Eparchy of the UGCC, and by Bishop Dmytro Hryhorak, includes educational activities for the clergy. On January 27–28, 2026, psychiatrist Oleksandr Lozynskyi and clinical psychologist Nataliia Verbetska conducted a two-day training session for clergy on the topic “Stress and Burnout in Pastoral Ministry.”
TNMU will continue to develop socially significant projects to support children and communities in need of professional medical and psychological assistance.
