Round Table “Open Science in Medicine”

At Ternopil National Medical University, within the framework of the XXX anniversary congress “The Future Belongs to Science,” organized by the Student Scientific Society of TNMU in cooperation with the NGO Association of Young Medics of the Ternopil Region, a round table on open science was held.

TNMU is a member of the consortium of the Erasmus+ CBHE Strand 3 project “Open Science for the Ukrainian Higher Education System (OPEN4UA).” The coordinator is Oleksandr Berezko, Associate Professor at Lviv Polytechnic National University.

During the round table, issues of open access to publications, open educational resources, and research data management were discussed.

The round table was moderated by Professor Oksana Shevchuk of the Department of Pharmacology.

It is extremely important to familiarize students with the principles of open science as an integral component of modern research culture. Supporting and promoting the movement of open access, open science, and open data in accordance with the National Open Science Plan of Ukraine (2022) and the strategic goals of Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area, in particular the implementation of European standards and FAIR principles, provides the foundation for shaping researchers’ perspectives and understanding current pathways and trends in science.

Increasing transparency and efficiency in the management of scientific research in Ukraine, as well as advancing research in scientific communication, open access, open science, and open data, is an integral part of integrating Ukrainian science.

Students showed great interest in the topics and actively engaged in the discussion. We thank the Student Scientific Society of TNMU and its head, Viktoriia Miroshnyk, for their support.
