The Educational and Scientific Institute of Nursing at TNMU Continues Implementing Educational Initiatives in Cooperation with WHO Ukraine
From April 27 to May 1, 2026, another training course for nurses was held at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Nursing of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. The course, based on PEN protocols, was organized within the framework of cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) in Ukraine.

The event continued a series of training programs aimed at strengthening nurses’ roles in the primary healthcare system and implementing modern approaches to the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases.

Nurses from primary healthcare settings across various regions took part in the training. The course program focused on the practical application of the PEN (Package of Essential Noncommunicable Disease Interventions) approach in everyday clinical practice.

Participants enhanced their knowledge in:
- cardiovascular risk assessment;
- management of patients with arterial hypertension;
- control and monitoring of diabetes mellitus;
- effective counseling on lifestyle modification.

A distinctive feature of the course was the active combination of theoretical sessions with practical training, clinical case analysis, and the development of interprofessional collaboration algorithms.

The training was delivered by certified trainers prepared with WHO support, who have practical experience in implementing PEN protocols in primary healthcare.

The seventh course of this kind confirmed the high level of interest among the nursing community in improving professional competencies and in their readiness to implement evidence-based practices to prevent noncommunicable diseases.

As part of ongoing cooperation with WHO Ukraine, another training course is planned. Nurses in family medicine who wish to complete training based on PEN protocols can register via the following link:
