TNMU and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society Expand the Scope of Their Humanitarian and Educational Partnership
On June 23, 2026, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, represented by its Rector Professor Petro Lykhatskyi, and the Ternopil Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, represented by its Chairperson Oleksandra Bryhadyr, officially confirmed their intention to strengthen cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. For many years, TNMU and the Ukrainian Red Cross Society have maintained close communication and collaboration on a variety of important initiatives.

This step opens new opportunities for the implementation of joint humanitarian, educational, and healthcare projects. The partnership envisions active cooperation in charitable and social initiatives, professional development and knowledge exchange, as well as the promotion of volunteer activities among students and community members.

Professor Petro Lykhatskyi, Rector of TNMU, emphasized that the university’s students have been serving for many years as volunteers in the Rapid Response Unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society in the Ternopil region and actively participate in numerous other charitable initiatives. He assured the partners of the university administration’s full support for expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects.

Oksana Tesliuk, Project Coordinator of the Ternopil Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, presented the organization’s current and future areas of activity. She noted that TNMU faculty members contribute significantly to many projects through their expertise and professional experience.

During the meeting, Svitlana Danchak, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Nursing, highlighted that in 2025 three training courses in basic emergency medical care had been organized for representatives of the organization at the university’s Simulation Training Center.

Yuliia Danylevych, Guarantor of the Educational and Professional Program in Nursing, announced a series of training courses planned for 2026 for representatives of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, to be delivered with the participation of TNMU faculty members, including:
August: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for Psychologists;
September: Conducting Public Events: From Public Speaking to Facilitation;
October–November: Mobile Medicine Without Risks: Practical Infection Control for Outreach Teams Providing Primary Healthcare;
Physical Rehabilitation and Social Adaptation for Mobile Rehabilitation Teams;

Oleksandra Bryhadyr, Chairperson of the Ternopil Regional Organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, emphasized that the organization’s mobile teams provide primary healthcare services and operate facilities for physiotherapy and social rehabilitation.

Professor Petro Lykhatskyi also proposed expanding cooperation through the university’s Mental Health Center. The center’s specialists provide psychiatric consultations for adults and children, including diagnosis and treatment planning, as well as psychotherapy, psychological support, crisis counseling, and rehabilitation services for individuals recovering from crises and mental health disorders. To ensure accessibility, consultations can be conducted online, and mobile outreach teams are available to support individuals in their homes. The Rector stressed that these services are funded by the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU) and are therefore provided free of charge to all citizens of Ukraine.

The signing of the Memorandum represents a significant step toward expanding joint initiatives and community-oriented projects. The partners look forward to an active schedule of educational training programs, mutual support for outreach teams, and the further development of accessible psychological assistance services.
