TNMU Ranks Second Among Ukrainian Universities and First Among Medical Universities in Prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings
I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University (TNMU) ranked second among Ukrainian higher education institutions, placing in the 1201–1500 band of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The University also secured first place among all medical higher education institutions in Ukraine.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is one of the world’s most influential international university rankings, evaluating institutions based on the quality of their teaching, research, and overall academic performance.

The ranking is based on five key performance indicators:
- Teaching (29.5%) – assesses the University’s academic reputation through surveys of scholars, the staff-to-student ratio, the number of doctoral degrees awarded, and institutional income. This indicator reflects the quality of the learning environment provided by the University.
- Research Environment (29.5%) – evaluates research reputation, research income, and research productivity, including the number of scholarly publications per academic staff member.
- Research Quality (30%) – measures the impact of the University’s research through citation performance, research excellence, and the proportion of publications appearing in the world’s most prestigious international scientific journals.
- Industry (2.5%) – considers income generated through collaboration with industry, the number of patents awarded, and citations of the University’s research in patent documentation. This indicator demonstrates the practical impact and real-world application of research outcomes.
- International Outlook (7.5%) – evaluates the proportion of international students and academic staff, as well as the number of research publications co-authored with scholars from other countries. This criterion reflects the University’s level of integration into the global academic community.
