TNMU Associate Professor Lina Bahnii Awarded Fulbright Scholarship and to Conduct Research in the USA
Lina Bahnii, Associate Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2 at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, has been selected as a winner of the Fulbright Research and Development Program 2026–2027 competition. Thanks to this grant support, the researcher will have the opportunity to conduct a nine-month research project at the leading U.S. institution Weill Cornell Medicine (New York, NY, USA), within the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
The title of her research project is “Non-Invasive Biomarkers of Extracellular Matrix Remodeling in Predicting Pregnancy Outcomes in Women with Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease.”
The research focuses on a pressing issue in contemporary obstetric, gynecological, and hepatological practice. Given the increasing prevalence of obesity and metabolic disorders among women of reproductive age, studying the impact of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease on pregnancy outcomes is an important public health priority.
The project will investigate the potential use of non-invasive biomarkers of extracellular matrix remodeling, including markers of collagen turnover, to assess liver status and predict the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. This will facilitate the timely identification of high-risk patients and the implementation of personalized approaches to their monitoring and care.
We sincerely congratulate Lina Bahnii on her success in the Fulbright Program! We wish her a successful implementation of the project, significant scientific achievements, and new fruitful partnerships!
