TNMU and U.S. Philanthropist Brian True Expand Cooperation in Ophthalmology

Brian True, Director of the Eye Care for Ukraine organization, visited I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University on 15 September 2026. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the development of the university’s educational facilities and the creation of modern conditions for the practical training of students in the field of eye disease treatment.

Over the past several years, Mr. True has become a dedicated advocate for Ukraine in the United States. His charitable mission in Ukraine began back in 2019, and since the outbreak of the war, he has become a regular visitor and committed volunteer. I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University has repeatedly received high-tech medical equipment donated by Brian True.

The meeting was attended by TNMU Rector Petro Lykhatskyi, Vice-Rector for Research Oleksandra Oleshchuk, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Mykhailo Korda, Head of the Project Management Office Oksana Shevchuk, and Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Students Mariia Marushchak.

The key topic of the discussion was the establishment of a specialized room equipped with state-of-the-art facilities at the TNMU Simulation Training Centre. This will enable students to develop and improve their practical skills in providing ophthalmic care using modern approaches and equipment.

Another important area of cooperation will be the establishment of a specialized “wet lab” — an experimental laboratory designed for work with biological materials and laboratory animals.

At the end of the meeting, Rector Petro Lykhatskyi expressed his sincere gratitude to Brian True for his long-standing and consistent support of the university and his significant contribution to the development of medical education.
