Biology PhD Programme Working Group Meets with Director of Ternopil Municipal City Hospital No. 2 to Strengthen Partnership
On 23 September 2026, a working meeting was held between Professor Larysa Fedoniuk, guarantor of the Biology Educational and Scientific Programme at the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education, Professor Zoia Nebesna, one of the programme’s developers, and a potential stakeholder, Rostyslav Levchuk, Director of Ternopil Municipal City Hospital No. 2.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss potential cooperation between I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and the healthcare institution aimed at improving the training of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students in specialty 091 “Biology and Biochemistry.” During the meeting, the participants thoroughly reviewed the components of the educational and scientific programme and outlined several areas of potential cooperation. These included the possibility of using the hospital’s facilities for laboratory research by PhD students, experimental work, and research placements, as well as prospects for conducting joint biomedical research and preparing scientific publications.
Rostyslav Levchuk shared his vision of the current competency requirements for biology graduates, particularly in the areas of clinical laboratory diagnostics, biomedicine, and genetic research. The Director of Ternopil Municipal City Hospital No. 2 emphasized the institution’s interest in highly qualified specialists who are proficient in modern biological analysis methods and expressed readiness to support the university’s initiatives.

For her part, Professor Larysa Fedoniuk, guarantor of the programme, noted that “cooperation with leading healthcare institutions is critically important for the Biology programme, as it makes it possible to bring the theoretical training of future researchers closer to the real needs of practical healthcare and the biomedical sector.”
Following the meeting, it was agreed that the stakeholder’s proposals would be taken into account during the annual review and updating of the Biology Educational and Scientific Programme.
