TNMU Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 1 Assistant Takes Part in the 30th European Congress of Perinatal Medicine in Warsaw
From September 16 to 19, 2026, the 30th European Congress of Perinatal Medicine (XXX European Congress of Perinatal Medicine), organized by the European Association of Perinatal Medicine (EAPM), was held at the Medical University of Warsaw, Republic of Poland. Olena Oleksiak, Assistant at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 1 of Ivan Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, took part in one of Europe’s leading scientific forums in the field of perinatal medicine.

At the congress, Olena Oleksiak presented the results of her research, “Pro- and Anti-inflammatory Cytokine Balance in Pregnant Women with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease,” as a poster presentation.

A special feature of this year’s congress was the Ukrainian session, which focused on current issues of obstetric and perinatal morbidity in wartime and crisis situations. The presentations addressed the impact of wartime conditions on the health of pregnant women and newborns, changes in the structure of obstetric pathology, and the challenges facing Ukraine’s perinatal care system. The session was chaired by Professor Volodymyr Artiomenko of Odesa National Medical University.

The practical component was an important part of the congress. Olena Oleksiak took part in the “Hands-on Intrapartum Ultrasound” workshop, which focused on the use of ultrasound during labor. Participants practiced their skills using state-of-the-art OPUS simulation trainers, which make it possible to model clinical situations and improve skills in ultrasound assessment of labor.

The scientific program of the XXX European Congress of Perinatal Medicine brought together specialists from different countries and covered current approaches to the management of high-risk pregnancies, the prevention and treatment of obstetric complications, prenatal diagnosis, and perinatal care. Among the congress experts was Professor Gian Carlo Di Renzo, who delivered a presentation on preterm birth, the role of progesterone, and pregnancy support in early pregnancy.

Participation in the XXX European Congress of Perinatal Medicine provided an opportunity to present TNMU research findings at the international level, contribute to professional discussions on current issues in perinatal medicine, and learn about modern practical approaches used in European obstetric practice.
