TNMU holds infection control training for mobile medical team staff

From October 7 to 9, 2026, the Simulation Training Center of TNMU hosted the training “Mobile Medicine Without Risks – Infection Control in Practice”, bringing together doctors and nurses from primary healthcare centers in Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi regions involved by the Ukrainian Red Cross Society in the “Mobile Medical Teams” project.

The training aimed to strengthen the practical infection control skills of healthcare workers, ensure compliance with safety requirements during medical care, and prevent the spread of infections during the work of mobile medical teams.

The training covered the practical application of infection control principles across various healthcare settings. Participants practiced infection safety requirements during outpatient visits and the work of mobile medical teams.

Special attention was given to action algorithms for healthcare workers in cases of mass patient influx, as well as the identification of patients suspected of particularly dangerous infectious diseases.

Considerable focus was placed on the use of personal protective equipment, hand hygiene, proper handling of medical waste, and infection prevention. Hands-on practice of these skills helped healthcare workers build the readiness to act safely and effectively in various clinical situations.

A team of practicing specialists and faculty combined clinical experience with educational expertise to ensure the training’s practical focus. The team included Natalia Smoliuk, deputy director of Ternopil Regional Clinical Hospital; Mariana Huk, assistant professor at the Department of Infectious Diseases with Epidemiology, Skin and Venereal Diseases; and Yuliia Danylevych, Svitlana Danchak, and Oksana Prokopchuk, associate professors at the Department of Higher Nursing Education, Patient Care, and Clinical Immunology.

The training was made possible with financial support from the Norwegian Red Cross as part of its cooperation with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society.

Such training events help enhance the professional competence of healthcare workers, improve the quality of medical care, and create a safer environment for patients and professionals alike.
