Professor Hubert Egger continues to develop the Prosthetics and Orthotics specialty at TNMU

Regular visits by Professor Hubert Egger from the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (FH Upper Austria, Linz) to Ternopil National Medical University contribute to the improvement and development of training and research for future prosthetists and orthotists.

The purpose of the visit in October 2026 was to hold meetings with teachers and students of the Prosthetics and Orthotics educational program, as well as to learn about research projects and startups developed by Austrian students and scientists.

Professor Egger is an experienced teacher and innovator who actively works on developing modern solutions in the field of limb prosthetics. Combining teaching at an Austrian university with research work, he is involved in creating technologies used in the developments of leading global companies.

During the meeting, future prosthetists and orthotists had the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in limb prosthetics, find out about their application features, and test innovative solutions in practice. Such experience contributes to deepening students’ professional knowledge and helps them better understand the possibilities of modern prosthetic technologies.

An important goal for Professor Egger is the transfer of modern knowledge, technology, and practical experience to Ukrainian prosthetic specialists and future prosthetists and orthotists. Through regular visits to Ukraine and cooperation with educational and research institutions, he aims to promote the implementation of innovative developments into domestic practice, ensuring that Ukrainian prosthetists and orthotists have access to advanced technologies and can provide high-quality, modern, and effective assistance to wounded military personnel and civilians in need of prosthetics.

Professor Egger encouraged students to go beyond known methods and technologies, develop critical and innovative thinking, generate their own ideas, and turn them into practical solutions. He emphasized the importance of initiative in creating their own projects and startups, a creative approach to solving professional tasks, and interdisciplinary interaction. According to the professor, it is the willingness to experiment, implement new developments, and take responsibility for their realization that contributes to the development of modern prosthetic technologies and the improvement of care for people in need of prosthetics.

Students actively participated in discussions on promising areas of research work, shared their own ideas for improving prosthetic products, and proposed possible ways to implement innovative solutions. The meeting served as a platform for professional dialogue, exchange of opinions, and the search for new ideas. Future prosthetists and orthotists expressed a sincere interest in continuing cooperation with Professor Egger and his students, particularly within joint research projects, developments, and international educational initiatives. Such interaction opens new opportunities for developing the research potential of future specialists and strengthening international partnerships in the field of prosthetics and orthotics.

Since 2024, Professor Egger has been regularly visiting TNMU, supporting the development of the Prosthetics and Orthotics educational program. For two years, he has been teaching the “High-Tech Limb Prosthetics” course for Master’s level students, introducing future specialists to modern technologies and innovative solutions in the field.

This year, the training began at the end of September online. After completing the course in December, students will take an exam with the professor and undergo final testing. Based on the results of their studies, they will receive certificates confirming successful completion of the course.

We express our sincere gratitude to Professor Egger for his initiative and consistent support for the development of the Prosthetics and Orthotics educational program. Special thanks to the translator from the Austrian Cooperation Office in Lviv, Daryna Borynska. Given that this educational program is relatively new and the prosthetics field is rapidly developing, international exchange of experience, research, and the implementation of modern technological solutions are of particular importance. Such cooperation contributes to the improvement of the educational process, the training of competitive specialists capable of working according to modern professional standards, and the integration of Ukrainian education and science into the international professional community.
