Conference “Current Strategies for Diagnosis and Treatment of Neurological and Psychiatric Diseases” was Held in TNMU

On October 20-21, 2021, the National and International Research and Training Conference “Current strategies for diagnosis and treatment of neurological and psychiatric diseases” was held at Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital. The event was organized by the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of after I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University and the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University. Because of the challenging epidemiological situation in Ukraine and the world due to the coronavirus pandemic, the conference was held online.

During the meetings, 18 scientific reports were presented and discussed.

The participants of the conference were welcomed by Professor Ivan Mykolaiovych Klishch, the Vice-Rector for Research of TNMU. Ivan Mykolaiovych stressed the urgency of the scientific meeting, as the number of mental disorders in the modern world is increasing constantly that is also caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor Natalia Maruta, the Deputy Director for Research of the Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Addiction of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the Department of Neuroses and Border States of the Institute, Vice President of the Scientific and Practical Society of Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Addicts of Ukraine opened the plenary sessions with a report on “Preventive psychiatry (concept, models, experience, implementation)”.

Professor Olena Petrivna Venger, the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of Ternopil National Medical University, presented her report on “Differentiated approach to the treatment of depressive disorders in a pandemic”.

Vynnyk Mykhailo Ivanovych, Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University reported on “Some neurobiological aspects of psychopharmacotherapy of schizophrenia”.

The report by Vadim Yevgeniiovych Honcharov, Professor of Kharkiv Academy of Postgraduate Education, President of the Eastern European Association of Psychologists and Psychiatrists on “Psychobiotics is a new step in psychiatry” was very interesting for the audience.

The report on “Neurophysiological aspects of language and its significance for psychotherapy” by Professor Pustovoit Mikhailo Mнkhailovych, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Addiction and Medical Psychology of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University was really interesting for the conference participants.

Professor Oleh Sozontovych Chaban, Head of the Department of Medical Psychology, Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy of the Bogomolets National Medical University reported on “Safe / dangerous antidepressants, or will happy mice help sad people?”

Professor Kozhyna Anna Mykhailivna, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology, Medical Psychology and Social Work of Kharkiv National Medical University presented the report “Personalized model of providing psychiatric care to patients with stress-related disorders”.

Professor Piliahina Halyna Yakivna, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Medical Psychology of the P. Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine presented a report on “Self-destructive behaviour, its neurobiological basis and principles of treatment”.

Korostiy Volodymyr Ivanovych, Professor of the Department ofPsychiatry, Addiction, Medical Psychology and Social Work of Kharkiv National Medical University presented the report on “Neuropsychological aspects of anxiety and depression in somatic patients”.

On the first day of the event the moderators were Professor Olena Petrivna Venher, the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of TNMU, and Professor Mykhailo Ivanovych Vynnyk, the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of IFNMU.

The second day of the plenary session of the conference began with a report on “Depression – a disease of civilization” presented by Olena Petrivna Venher, the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of TNMU.

Yurii Ihorovych Mysula, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of TNMU presented a report on “Bipolar affective disorder at the present stage”.

Olena Yevhenivna Smashna, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of TNMU, presented a report on “Combination of transcranial brain stimulation (tDCS) and CBT in the treatment of PTSD patients with craniocerebral trauma”.

The report on “Current neurobiological aspects of treatment of depression in children and adolescents” was presented by Olena Mykolaiivna Pityk, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Addiction and Medical Psychology, Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University.

Zelenska Kateryna Oleksiivna, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Addiction, Medical Psychology and Social Work of Kharkiv National Medical University, presented a report on “Algorithm of medical and psychological support of ATO / OOS veterans”.

Volodymyr Sergiiovych Bilous, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of TNMU, presented a report on “Prodromal period of psychosis”.

The report on “Neuroleptics and deficient symptoms in schizophrenia” was presented by Bodnar Olha Mykolaiivna, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and Outpatient Care.

Sikora Anastasiia Bohdanivna, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Addiction and Medical Psychology, Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, presented a report on “Cytokines as a neurobiological basis of depression: open questions”.

The report on “Neurobiological bases of metabolic complications of schizophrenia therapy with neuroleptics and their treatment” was presented by Romash Ivan Romanovych, Assistant Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University.

The moderators on the second day were Professor Olena Petrivna Venher, the Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of TNMU, and Yurii Ihorovych Mysula, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology of TNMU.

Lead experts from all over Ukraine, specifically from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Vinnytsia, and Lviv, took part in the scientific meeting.

It should be noted that the conference reports reflected the current stage of evolution of views on mental health problems, trends in improving the medical services in the world and the place of Ukrainian psychiatry in this process. All participants of the meeting noted the urgent issues of the presentations and high level of organization of the conference.
