Conference on “European Standards for Diagnosis and Treatment of the Most Common Children Diseases” at TNMU

For two days, on May 5-6, 2021, the International Research and Training Conference “European Standards for Diagnosis and Treatment of the Most Common Children Diseases” was held at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.

Professor Halyna Pavlyshyn, the Head of the Department of Pediatrics No.2 welcomed the participants: “Our conference, with the kind consent of Professor Artur Mazur (University of Rzeszów), has already become a traditional Ukrainian-Polish scientific tandem, which has been held in May for several years already. This year the conference is held in a special – Easter period, during the greatest Christian holiday of Resurrection of the Lord, the Feast of the Victory of Life over Death. Despite the pandemic, limitated communication, during this period all living Nature, People are filled with a special gift of Grace, Love, Peace, which they share with others, and thus, are filled, enriched and multiplied with Joy. And today, with Love and Joy, we will share with you some information, knowledge, experience, current approaches to diagnosis and treatment of paediatric pathologies.”

Professor Ivan Klishch, the Vice-Rector for Research, also delivered a welcome speech. He congratulated the participants on behalf of the TNMU Rector Professor Mykhaylo Korda and wished success and fruitful work during the scientific meeting.

Professor Stepan Zaporozhan, the Vice-Rector for Science, Education and Clinical Affairs greeted the participants and guests of the conference as well.

Stepan Yosypovych thanked the conference organizers and Professor Artur Mazur from the University of Rzeszow for cooperation, sharing information and experience, and wished the scientists productive work, positive emotions during communication with colleagues.

Professor Ivan Smiyan, the Coryphaeus of Paediatrics and Paediatric School, the Spiritual Father of Paediatricians of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, the third rector of TNMU, long-time head of the Department of Paediatrics greeted the medical community of Ukraine and the conference participants.

Valentyna Sum, the expert of the Department of Health in Paediatrics of the Ternopil Regional State Administration, welcomed the participants and wished good health and success in research.

The aim of the scientific forum is to expand knowledge and develop skills of the specialists providing medical care to children, as well as diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the most common pathologies in children and adolescents, and sharing experience with foreign colleagues from Poland: leading experts in neonatology, paediatrics, paediatric endocrinology. The scientists from the University of Rzeszów: Professor Artur Mazur, Professor Radoslaw Chaber, Professor Jacek Tabarkiewicz; the University of Warsaw: Professor Piotr Albrecht, Professor Anna Tyrska-Kmets; as well as well-known in Europe and Poland neonatologists Professor Maria Katarzyna Borszewska-Kornatska, Professor Bogumila Stoinska shared their knowledge, scientific and practical experience. The famous scientists, experts from Ukraine: Professor Dobrianskyi D.O., Professor Kovaliova O.M., Professor Makeieva N.I., Professor Ryga O.O., Professor Haytovych M.I., Professor Besh L.V., Professor Sinoverska O.B., Professor Chaichenko T.V. took part in the conference. Due to the world pandemic and challenging epidemiological situation in the region, the meeting was held online.

The first section meeting covered the topical issues of neonatology, namely premature new-borns. Professor Halyna Pavlyshyn presented the report on “Premature infant – the challenges and consequences of extrauterine life”

Iryna Sarapuk, the Associate Professor of the Department of Paediatrics presented a report on “How to cope with infant challenges and prevent adverse consequences?”

Professor Maria Katarzyna Borszewska-Kornatska noted with great pleasure and joy the sincere interest of Ukrainian neonatologists in new knowledge and approaches to care of a special category of extremely and very premature new-borns. Professor M.-K. Kornatska thanked Professor Mykhaylo Korda, the Rector of Ternopil National Medical University, and the conference organizers for their work, efforts and sincere desire to cooperate.

Professor M.-K. Kornatska reported on “Follow-up of a premature baby at the outpatient stage”.

 Dmytro Dobrianskyi, Professor of the Department of Paediatrics, Lviv Danylo Halytskyi National Medical University, reported on “Physical Development and Nutrition of a Premature Newborns”.

Professor Bogumila Stoinska (Poland) provided to neonatologists, paediatricians, family doctors a very interesting information about “Psychomotor development of children born with a body weight <1500 g, clinical problems and long-term consequences of prematurity”.

In the section of Paediatrics of the conference, Associate Professor Oleksandra Shulgai expanded on the issues of functional disorders with a report on “Pathogenetic approach to solving the problem of infantile colic”.

Professor Halyna Pavlyshyn reported on “Frequently Asked Questions in Outpatient Follow-up of Premature Infants”.

Professor Piotr Albrecht, the Head of the Clinic of Gastroenterology and Nutrition of Children of Warsaw Medical University (Poland) and a member of the Board of the Polish Paediatric Society, presented a report on “Antibiotic therapy for respiratory infections in children: the most common mistakes”.

Associate Professor Victoria Slyva emphasized on current approaches to diagnosis and treatment of bronchiolitis in infants and children, from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine, and stressed the significance of prevention of respiratory syncytial infection in children at risk and the importance of timely vaccination.

Professor Anna Tyrska-Kmets, the Cardiology Clinic of the Institute of Child Health of the Warsaw Medical University (Poland), presented “Diagnostic approaches and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias in children”.

Professor Oksana Boyarchuk expanded on “Allergic manifestations of primary immunodeficiency”.

Professor Lesya Besh, the Head of the Department of Paediatrics No.2 of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, the Head of the Lviv Children’s Allergy Centre, the Expert of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, told how to choose the optimal strategy for bronchial asthma control in children.

Olha Dyvoniak, the Head of the Department of Children Infectious Diseases of Ternopil City Municipal Children Hospital, presented the report on “Treatment of children with multisystem inflammatory syndrome”.

Top specialists, famous scientists from Ukraine and Poland joined in the section of Paediatric Endocrinology; Associate Professor Viktoria Furdela was the moderator. Professor Tetiana Chaichenko from Kharkiv National Medical University presented “Modern ideas about children obesity”.

Professor Artur Mazur of Rzeszow University, the Head of the Clinic of Paediatrics, Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetology, the Vice-Rector of the Collegium of Medical Sciences, co-organizer of the Ukrainian-Polish conference congratulated the Ukrainian medical community on the holiday and thanked for their participation in the scientific forum. Professor Artur Mazur presented the report on “Prospects in the treatment of diabetes type 1 in children”; he shared recent promising methods and developments in the treatment of this disease.

Paediatric Endocrinologist Associate Professor Viktoria Furdela focused the attention of paediatricians and general physicians on the topical issues of diagnosis and treatment of diabetes in children

Professor Halyna Pavlyshyn thanked the university management for the assistance in organization of the conference, co-organizers and guests of the conference, all participants and partners of the scientific forum.

The format of the videoconference allowed the participants not only to present their scientific achievements, but also became a platform for scientific dialogue, joint viewing and discussion of videos and presentations.
