“Europe-East” University Centre and the Independence Day of Poland at TNMU
The 103rd anniversary of Poland’s independence was celebrated at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, which hospitably welcomed guests in accordance with sanitary norms and observance of the mask regime.
The event began with the Polish anthem; after that Peter Frieze, the Chairman of Prof. Mechyslaw Krompec Polish Centre for Culture and Education, reminded everyone of the historical circumstances of Poland’s return on the world map. Associate Professor Taras Kadobnyi, the coordinator of international projects of the NGO “Institute for the Study of National Heritage”, welcomed the guests and stressed the importance of good neighbourly relations between Poland and Ukraine. Deputy Dean Anton Hantimurov, represented the International Students Faculty. The representatives of the community of Polish students of TNMU Bartosz Migotski and Michał Niton made a speech.
During the event, the choir of Prof. Mechyslau Kromets Polish Centre for Culture and Education “Ternopilski Akvareli (Ternopil Watercolors)” performed a number of patriotic works, and Kateryna Korpak, a student of the Polish language school, read a poem “Motherland” by Tsiprian-Kmil Nowid. The students, who took part in the Olympiad in Polish History – 2021 and the competition “Forgotten. Found. Polish Memory of Generations” organized by the Freedom and Democracy Foundation, were awarded with prises. Marta Struk and Anastasia Nadkevych, the students of the Faculty of Medicine were awarded as well.
The participants had the opportunity to visit the infographic exhibition “Solemn celebration of the 230th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution on May 3”, prepared by the Freedom and Democracy Foundation. Also, the teacher Ms. Marianna Seroka referred to Ternopil by ORPEG, told about the Polish traditions of celebrating St. Martin’s Day, which is also celebrated on November 11, the story of St. Martin’s bagels; afterwards everyone had the opportunity to taste them. The celebration finished with the feast of a cake made in the colours of the Polish flag.
In the future, a number of activities are planned to study the cultural and national heritage of the two peoples.
