Interdepartmental Scientific and Applied Seminar for the Staff of TNMU Faculty of Pharmacy

On March 16, 2023, the Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Professor Liliya Logoyda, held an interdepartmental scientific and applied seminar on the topic “Application of scientometric databases for writing a scientific paper in chemistry: theoretical aspects and personal experience” on the MS Teams platform. This event was attended not only by the staff of the departments of the Faculty of Pharmacy, but also by the Master’s and PhD students.

During the seminar, the concepts of “scientometric database”, “citation index”, “Hirsch index”, “impact factor” were thoroughly considered as well as the difference between a scientometric database and an academic publishing house, etc.

Sharing her own experience, Liliya Logoyda explained the significance of the Hirsch index in the scientific world for a researcher, how to choose the right journal (indexed edition) for the publication of scientific research (for example, in academic publishing houses Elsevier, Willey, MDPI, Springer, Nature, Lancet etc.), by which means it is possible to raise the level of the article planned for publication.

The seminar participants were interested in the speaker’s explanations regarding the step-by-step process of working on a scientific article: finding and choosing a publishing house whose readers will be the target audience; the correct title of the article, which will reflect the content of the publication and will be understandable to specialists in other fields; reasonable selection of keywords; writing an abstract; presentation of the main material (research materials and methods, results and their discussion, relevant conclusions); expressing appreciation; designing the list of the literary sources.

According to the requirements of the approved standard of higher education of the second (Master’s) level of the field of knowledge “Health care” specialty 226 “Pharmacy, industrial pharmacy”, students, as one of the components of their certification, must perform and defend qualification papers that must demonstrate their independent ability to solve problems of a research and/or innovative nature in pharmacy. Therefore, a part of the seminar was devoted to the structure of the qualification paper and a workshop on the search of literary sources and writing a literature review.

A separate fragment of the seminar was the speaker’s meaningful information about the principles of academic integrity and the need to observe them both during the educational process and when performing and publishing the results of scientific research.
