International conference Modern Approaches in Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Periodontal and Oral Mucosal Diseases took place at TSMU

On April 19-21, 2018  international research and training conference Modern Approaches in Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Periodontal and Oral Mucosal Diseases took place at Ternopil State Medical University.

 

TSMU Department of Dental Therapy (Head of the department Professor M.A. Luchunskyy) organized the conference jointly with Department of Therapeutic Dentistry of Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy (Head of the department Professor T. Petrushanko).

The conference drew more than 100 participants, among them leading experts in the field of dentistry from Ukraine and abroad: professor P.A. Leus (Belarusian State Medical University), Vice-President of the Association of Periodontology of Ukraine prof. Petrushanko, Executive Officer of the Association of Periodontology and Vice-President of the Association of Laser Dentistry of Ukraine, professor Y. G. Chumakova, heads of dentistry departments, professors, researchers and practicing dentists from Lviv, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Vinnytsa, Kharkiv, Odesa, Poltava, Chernivtsi, Minsk and other cities.

Professor Ivan Klisch, welcoming the participants on behalf of TSMU rector professor M.M. Korda, greeted all those present and underscored the importance of effective treatment and prevention of dental diseases in clinical practice. These diseases require multidisciplinary approach to their treatment. As the same time, it is impossible to overestimate the role of dental health in the overall health and wellbeing. Thus, research and practical issues of dentistry require utmost attention, and the conference like this one are essential for sharing knowledge and developing connections.

President of the Organizing Committee, Head of the Department of Dental Therapy Professor M.A. Luchunskyy opened sectional meetings, highlighting scientific importance of the scheduled talks, and their applicability to both theoretical and practical dentistry.

Dean of TSMU Faculty of Dentistry Professor S.I. Boitsaniuk introduced Department of Dental Therapy and spoke about its history, milestones and development. The Department started as a small academic course, subsequently growing into a powerful scientific and educational unit of the university.

Lively discussion of the issues facing the dentists today took place during two plenary and two section sessions. Lecturers and researchers from different regions of Ukraine presented 38 reports addressing modern approaches to the treatment and prevention of the most widespread dental diseases in adults and children.

Additionally, participants of the conference had an opportunity to take part in the following workshops:

  1. Modern approaches to preparation of alveolar appendix for dental implantation;
  2. Guided biofilm therapy: updated oral hygiene protocol for children and adults;
  3. The use of Kettenbach materials.

Conference proceedings (46 works) will be issued as a publication.
