Kick-Off Meeting Was Held as Part of the Erasmus+ Open4UA Project

Ternopil National Medical University is a partner of the “Open Science for Ukrainian Higher Education System” (Open4UA) project. It is a structural project of Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education – the development of the potential of higher education program, which involves close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and will contribute to the growth of the knowledge economy of Ukraine for post-war recovery by reforming the higher education system. The project coordinator is Associate Professor Oleksandr Berezko (“Lviv Polytechnic”).
This will be achieved by prioritizing open science at various levels (from national to individual), which is reflected in the project’s goals:

  • promoting national reform in the field of open science for the modernization of the higher education system and European integration by supporting changes to legislation based on an organized national consensus;
  • implementation of existing advanced approaches and development of recommendations and mechanisms for reforming the evaluation of scientific activity for prioritizing open science at the national level during the state certification of higher education institutions and evaluation of scientific projects;
  • promoting institutional reform in the field of open science and improving the assessment of science in higher education institutions by developing and piloting the appropriate tools.

 

On January 24-25, 2024, the kick-off meeting within the framework of the project was held in a mixed mode, at which Professor Oksana Shevchuk represented TNMU.

On the first day, with the participation of Denys Kurbatov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Hryhorii Mozolevych, acting general director of the science development directorate and members of the working group of the Ministry of Education and Culture, there was a presentation and discussion of the preliminary work of the group on the development of a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of scientific (research and technical) activities of research institutions and institutions of higher education in terms of the implementation of scientific (research and technical) activities by such institutions according to individual directions during state certification. There was also work in small groups on various aspects of the methodology and its implementation.

The second day was dedicated to closer acquaintance of the consortium members and detailed discussion of the main work packages and project milestones.

The implementation of the principles of open science in the higher education of Ukraine will facilitate the integration of our scholars and their accomplishments and achievements into the European educational space.
