New Perspective of Ternopil State Medical University and Vienna Medical University Cooperation

On September 10 Professor Harald Teufelsbauer from Medical University of Vienna (Austria) visited Ternopil State Medical University. At first the guest met with the rector of Ternopil State Medical University, Professor Mykhailo Korda. Ternopil and Vienna Medical Universities have been cooperating in educational and medical fields for many years.

During the meeting the rector of TSMU agreed to accept vascular surgeons team from Vienna University Hospital in Ternopil who will accomplish high-tech surgeries by implantation the vascular prostheses into aortic aneurysm. This will allow our vascular surgeons to assume practical experience of international colleagues.

Also professor Harald Teufelsbauer and the rector of TSMU, Professor Mykhailo Korda discussed prospects of cooperation in hematology. The possibility of including Ternopil citizens suffering from leukemia in treatment programs, which are now being implemented at the Vienna University Hospital, was discussed.

The honorary guests from Austria invited the head of Ternopil Medical University to visit the University in Vienna to coordinate the further plans for cooperation.

 The same day the auditorium of TSMU was full of senior students, interns, teachers of surgical departments, researchers who came for a lecture by Professor Harald Teufelsbauer on topical issues of vascular surgery. After the lecture there was a lively discussion on the issue. Participants received comprehensive answers for all questions.

Professor Harald Teufelsbauer had a meeting with TSMU scientists, vascular surgery professionals to specify the areas for further cooperation. He also invited the Ukrainian vascular surgeons to Austria for sharing experiences. The Head of the Department of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Professor Ihor Venher, Associate Professor of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Anesthesiology №2 Sviatoslav Kostiv, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery Andrii Vaida took part in the meeting.

Ihor Venher noted that the patches used abroad in vascular surgery have been developed in Kharkiv. This is a Ukrainian invention, which has been widely used in Europe and world. By the way, Professor Harald Teufelsbauer emphasized it in his lecture.
