Round Table Discussion on “Religious Identity as a Factor of National Security of Ukraine”

On December 14, 2023, Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University hosted a round table discussion with Ukrainian and international experts on the topic “Religious identity as a factor of national security of Ukraine”.


The participants of the meeting, who represented religious organizations, international and state missions, research institutions, higher education institutions, discussed the issues of security, religious identity, historical prerequisites and the current political situation in Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war.


The Head of the Academic Office of Ternopil National Medical University, PhD in History, Associate Professor Andrii Mashtalir took part in this event.


The theme of the meeting united the speeches of Metropolitan Nestor of Ternopil and Kremenets (Orthodox Church of Ukraine); Askold Lozynskyi, President of the World Congress of Ukrainians (1998-2008); Vasyl Perets, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Detroit (USA); Father Andrzei Maliha, Dean of the Ternopil Deanery of the Lviv Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine; Taras Kokovskyi, Head of the Galician diocese of the Ukrainian Lutheran Church; Oleh Sahan, Doctor of Theology, regional senior presbyter of the Ternopil regional association of the Ukrainian Church of Christians of the Evangelical Faith; Father Vitalii Kozak, Doctor of Oriental Church Sciences, Vicar of the Ternopil-Zboriv Archdiocese of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, Dean of the city of Ternopil; Oleksandr Sahan, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Head of the Religious Studies Department of Hryhoriy Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a member of the Ukrainian Association of Religious Studies (Kyiv); Yaroslav Stotskyi, DSc in History, Professor of Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University.


The participants of the round table were greeted by the Rector of TNTU Mykola Mytnyk; Deputy of the Ternopil Regional Council Mykhailo Tymoshyk; Director of the World Congress of Ukrainians in Ukraine Serhii Kasianchuk; Davyd Milman, chaplain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; Head of the Department of ethnopolitics, freedom of conscience and digital transformations of the Department of culture and tourism of the Ternopil regional state administration Ihor Kulchytskyi.

The closing speech was made by the Head of the Department of Information Activities and Social Sciences, DSc in History Andrii Kryskov; PhD in History, Honoured Artist of Ukraine, member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine Oleh Herman and PhD in History, Associate Professor Andrii Mashtalir.
