Seminar on Adherence to the Principles of Academic Integrity, Preparation of Dissertations and Organization of Certification of Applicants for PhD Degree

On December 23, 2021 a seminar on adherence to the principles of academic integrity, preparation of dissertations and organization of certification of applicants of the PhD degree was held at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. The post-graduate students and candidates for the PhD degree studying at TNMU on academic programs 222 “Medicine”, 221 “Dentistry”, 223 “Nursing”, 226 “Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy”, 228 “Pediatrics”, field of knowledge 22 “Health”, and 091 “Biology” field of knowledge 09 “Biology” joined the event. It was held in a mixed format; the video conferencing, allowed joining the seminar by post-graduate students and applicants of TNMU from different parts of Ukraine.

Professor Ivan Klishch, the Vice-Rector for Research of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, welcomed the participants on behalf of the university administration.

Ivan Mykolaiovych emphasized the basic principles of certification of PhD students, the procedure of preliminary dissertation examination, rules of formation and functioning of one-time specialized Academic Boards, organization of review and defence of dissertation in one-time specialized Academic Boards of the university.

Natalia Potikha, the Head of the Department of Postgraduate and Doctoral Education of the University, expanded on the basic principles of training of PhD students in post-graduate school, the rules of implementation of postgraduate educational and scientific components of the academic program, requirements for dissertation, its structure.

Tetiana Tolokova, Associate Professor of the Department of Physiology, Bioethics and Biosafety drew the attention of the applicants for the PhD degree to adhere to the principles of academic integrity in studying at the academic programs, performing research, writing and publishing academic theses, conducting intermediate and final tests. Tetiana Ivanivna emphacised the significance of following the principles of academic integrity and the obligation to check academic texts for plagiarism by software programmes, academic responsibility for adherence to the principles of academic integrity by the university students and staff.

The seminar promotes the principles of academic integrity, expands the knowledge of PhD students in education and research programmes and prepares for the defence of dissertations, and the videoconference format greatly expanded the audience and created environments for diverse and fruitful discussion.
