Skype lectures on Public Health were delivered to TNMU students

On December 12, 2019, Professor of Akkon University of Human Sciences in Berlin Timo Ulrichs delivered lectures for the first year students studying in program “Public Health” at TNMU Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management.

This event was planned as part of TNMU’s collaboration with Akkon University of Human Sciences in Berlin and the Institute for Support of International Studies, founded and headed by Doctor of Medicine, Prof. Timo Ulrichs.
 

While preparing students for lectures, Professor Hanna Saturska, Head of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management, told them about the most important stages of TNMU’s cooperation with the Akkon University of Human Sciences in Berlin, including the participation of Professor Timo Ulrichs in International Summer School Camp and his cooperation with teachers of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management during the First International Ukrainian-German Symposium on Public Health “Public health in social and educational environment – Today’s challenges and development prospects”.

The students were also told about the educational literature in public health presented by Timo Ulrichs.
 

Professor Timo Ulrichs delivered lectures on current topics included in the curriculum of “Biostatistics. Population Health Statistics” for Masters of Public Health: Epidemiological studies in health care, their classification. Empirical and experimental studies. Design of epidemiological studies: case-control, cohort, randomized clinical trials». He also told the students about current trends in public health in European countries and around the world, and focused on the opportunities and perspectives for students pursuing this specialty.

The lecture was also attended by Doctor of Medicine Nataliia Terenda, the warranter of the Master’s program in specialty “Public Health”, teachers of the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management, as well as students of the TNMU Medical Faculty, who, thanks to TNMU’s cooperation with Accon University visited the World Health Summit – 2019 in Berlin and participated in satellite international forums: 2nd German-East European Healthcare Symposium and International Young Scientists Symposium on Global Health.

  

The lectures gave rise to lively discussions on scientific approaches to planning, organizing and conducting epidemiological studies, contemporary challenges and prospects for public health development, training of masters in public health, and features of interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration in the field of public health.

In addition, students had the opportunity to discuss the areas of their future research for master’s thesis in public health and were invited to present the results of their research at the Satellite Symposium on Public Health in Berlin in October 2020.

This event will help to improve the quality of training of public health professionals in Ukraine, and continue international cooperation between TNMU and the Institute for Support of International Studies at Akkon University of Human Sciences in Berlin.
