Students of TSMU raised public awareness for the National Stop the Bleed Day

Ternopil State Medical University students and members of Ternopil Youth Branch of the National Board of Resuscitation, organized an educational activity for the National Stop the Bleed Day. Taking place in the shopping center Podoliany, the event focused on developing practical skills. In the last three years, first aid instructors, paramedics, firefighters, military have been offering free trainings to the public, emphasizing the importance of being able to stop bleeding.

On March 31, 2018 the team of instructors from Ternopil Youth Branch of the National Board of Resuscitation, together with the public organization White Berets, organized demonstrations and workshops on the methods to stop the bleeding.

Any member of the public had an opportunity to learn about the steps required from the moment a wounded person is found to their handing over to professional care. The first responders need to be able to assess the safety of the location, protect against blood-borne infections, differentiate the types bleeding and identify the critical ones. The members of public could learn how to stop the bleeding by applying a tourniquet, tamponing and dressing the wound.

These practical skills were demonstrated using modern medical manikins. Ternopil Youth Branch of the National Board of Resuscitation expresses its gratitude to all those who joined the event, to TSMU simulation training center and event partners, company СПАС, which produces tourniquets and dressings.
