TDMU received a grant from Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine

Ternopil State Medical University researchers have won a grant announced by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine. They will implement the project Development of Early Approaches to Physical Rehabilitation in Patients with Complicated Upper and Lower Extremity Fractures. The project involves purchasing of PT equipment that will be used to train students at the Department of Physical Rehabilitation, Human Health and Physical Education, as well as to treat patients needing rehabilitation. The students will master new methods of rehabilitation using modern equipment, and after completing their education use this knowledge and practical skills at their workplace: in hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

On February 28, 2018, at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ukraine the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Ukraine Radek Matula and Ternopil State Medical University rector Mykhaylo Korda, signed an agreement concerning implementation of the project.

The project will address early rehabilitation. Implementing it will allow to offering individually-tailored programs of passive and active joints exercises to patients following an injury. A typical rehabilitation program includes physical therapy with a set of exercises, massages, PT procedures and mechanotherapy. Using the new approaches will result in marked improvement of early rehabilitation of difficult fractures of the lower (knee, hip, tibia and foot joints) and upper extremities (shoulder, elbow, radial wrists).

Previously, TSMU has signed a cooperation agreement with Regional Physiotherapy Rehabilitation Hospital in Bilche-Zolote. Professionals of this institution will be involved in the project together with faculty and staff of the Department of Physical Rehabilitation.

Additional aspect of the project will be dedicated to dissemination of the new methods of rehabilitation treatment.  Professors of the Department of Physical Rehabilitation will conduct trainings and share their achievements. They will organize an international conference for the specialists in physical, medical, psychological, and social rehabilitation, as well as TSMU students to share their knowledge, practical skills,, and the latest approaches in the field of rehabilitation.
