Teaching staff of TNMU Department of Children’s Diseases and Pediatric Surgery participated in the events raising awareness of Kawasaki disease

To improve the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases in children, Ternopil Regional Children Clinical Hospital, All-Ukrainian Association of Pediatric Immunology, in conjunction with TNMU Department of Children’s Diseases with Pediatric Surgery, held a clinical conference on “3rd Day of Alertness of Kawasaki disease”.

The conference considered the relevance of Kawasaki disease, its prevalence in Ukraine, clinical manifestations, diagnostic criteria and treatment principles. Considering the fatal consequences of this disease, the topic of the conference was extremely important for scientists, pediatricians, students. Particular attention was paid to the relevance of timely diagnosis and adequate treatment of Kawasaki disease to prevent severe coronary vascular damage and death. Also, the issues of evaluation of the condition of the coronary vessels in the acute period of the disease, differential diagnosis of Kawasaki disease were discussed.

Leading Ukrainian specialists in the field of pediatric immunology and infectology were present at the conference: Head of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Pediatric Immunology of National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Prof. Alla Volokha, teachers of this department, Prof. Anastasia Bondarenko, Associate Professor Yurii Stepanovskyi, Assistant Anna Hilfanova, cardiologist of the State Institution “Scientific and Practical Medical Centre of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery” Yulia Klymyshyn.

The clinical case of Kawasaki disease in Ternopil region was presented by the head of the infectious department of Ternopil City Children Hospital Olha Dyvoniak. This conference helped to improve the qualifications of pediatricians, general practitioners, infectious disease doctors, cardiologists, rheumatologists.
