Ternopil State Medical University holds conference “Advancements in Clinical and Experimental Medicine”

TSMU hosted a scientific conference ” Advancements in Clinical and Experimental Medicine”. More than 150 researchers presented their work as poster presentations. Presentations were organized into following sections: “Internal medicine, infectious diseases, psychiatry and neurology,” “Surgery, oncology, traumatology”, “Dentistry, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology”, “Mother and child health”, “Experimental medicine, normal and pathology morphology, pharmacy advancements”,” Social medicine, bioethics, review and analytical works. ”

The participants also took part in a plenary session. It was opened by vice-rector on scientific and academic affairs, Professor Arkadiy Shulhai. He noted holding an annual scientific conference at the end of the school year is an established tradition at Ternopil State Medical University.  The conference summarizes the results of theoretical, experimental and clinical research achievements of its employees in the 2015/2016 academic year and marks noteworthy achievements of research departments of the University. Many of the presented works are a result of collaborative work in the departments and deserve recognition of their innovation potential that can be converted into patents and advanced to practical development. Much of the research is done in line with topical issues of modern medicine using analytical approaches and objective justification of the results.

First keynote address was given by the Chairman of the Association of Surgeons of Ternopil, head of the Department of Surgery of the research institute of postgraduate education, Professor Ihor Dziubanovskyi and titled “Development of Professor Komorovsk ideas in the works of his students”. It was dedicated to the memory of the famous surgeon, scientist and professor who was a multifaceted and extraordinary personality, talented surgeon, teacher, well-recognized figure in our country.

Keynote presentations by associate professor of social medicine and health economics Nataliya Terenda “Cardiovascular disease in Ukraine prognostic score incidence and prevalence,” associate professor of neurology, psychiatry, addiction and medical psychology Zoya Saliy “Clinical and paraclinical features the consequences of traumatic brain injury “,and assistant professor of primary care , general practice and family medicine Neonila Korylchuk ” Comorbid diseases in practice of family doctor: emphasis on obesity “resulted in a lively audience-wide discussion.

Results of competition for the best research work among students and young scientist were announced after the plenary talks and reports of section chairs. The winners were Andriy Prodan, clinical intern of Department of Surgery for the work “Defining features of undifferentiated connective tissue dysplasia in patients with varicose veins of the lower limbs” (supervisor – prof. IJ Dzyubanovsky), Solomiya Kramar, Assistant Professor of histology and embryology for the work “Morphological condition of skin in experimental thermal injury” (supervisor – prof. KS Volkov) and Yana Ivankiv, graduate student of pharmacology with clinical pharmacology the work  “Protective effect of melatonin on the experimental diabetes types 1 and 2 “(supervisor – prof. OM Oleshchuk)
