Ternopil State Medical University is on leading positions in independent Internet rankings

International Education Portal 4 International Colleges & Universities https://www.4icu.org/ua/ published a new ranking of institutions of higher education. Among 148 Ukrainian universities included in this ranking, Ternopil State Medical University took 13th overall place, and placed 1st among of Ministry of Health of Ukraine universities. Started in 2005, 4 International Colleges & Universities is an international higher education search engine and directory reviewing accredited Universities and Colleges in the world. 4icu.org includes 11,606 Colleges and Universities, ranked by web popularity, in 200 countries. Their ranking algorithm is based on four unbiased and independent web metrics, and includes data from three different search engines, such as Google, Alexa Global Rank and the British company Majestic-12. The methodology assesses popularity of each University based on indicators such as site traffic, the number of links to a site and the importance of resources to which references are made.

According to July update of another international ranking engine, Webometrics, TSMU’s ranking went up 8 steps and it now ranks third among Ukrainian state medical universities.

The “Webometrics Ranking of World Universities” is being produced since 2004 by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain. The ranking gives the greatest weight in, 80%, to citation indexes of the Universities on the Internet and Scopus database. The ranking also takes into account the implementation of “open access” policy to the research results produced in the University, educational materials, regulations and so on. Webometrics does not take into account the design of websites, their convenience and popularity, or the number of visitors.

By giving consideration to TSMU research activities and its academic outcomes these two web indicators provide independent snapshot of its global performance.
