Ternopil State Medical University scholars participated in the XVI Congress of World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Associations

In late August of this year, Shupyk National Academy of Postgraduate Education hosted the XVI Congress of World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Associations (WFUMA).

Ternopil State Medical University was represented by Professors Ihor Dzyubanovskyi,  Volodymyr Bihunyak, Stepan Vadziuk, Ihor Deykalo, and Leonid Hryschuk (who has also participated in the Pre-Congress events, which was held in mid-August in Germany), and Associate Professor Nadia Yarema. The delegation from our region also included the chief doctor of Ternopil regional medical and physical clinic Ihor Pankiv and director of Kremenets medical college Petro Mazur.

The XVI WFUMA Congress program covered the following issues:

Health Care Reforms in Ukraine: decentralization, management de-monopolization, medical self-management, postgraduate education, and public health.

Medical and social problems faced by ATO participants and internally displaced persons and multidisciplinary approach to address them. Tactical medicine, emergency and hospital care, medical, social and psychological rehabilitation, prevention of military and non-military trauma, PTSD and more.

Innovations in medicine (research, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, health care organization and health care) and in various medical specialties.

The most popular topics of the pre-congress s were “Ukrainian medical community in the world, its interaction and communication” and “Professional autonomy of doctors in Germany.”

In Kyiv the Congress was organized by Ukrainian Medical Association and Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, with technical partner LMT company, while in Berlin the pre-congress events were organized by Ukrainian Medical Association of the Federal Republic of Germany.

In Kyiv, President of the World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Associations, honorary president of the Ukrainian Medical Association, and member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine Liubomyr Pyrih opened the event, welcomed the guests to the beginning of the Congress and greeted everyone on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

President of the Ukrainian Medical Association, MP, deputy chairman of the Committee on Health of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleh Musiy on behalf of the Committee and of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Olha Bohomolets  greeted the attendees and noted that the most urgent issues facing the system of public health in Ukraine today are  providing access to medical services European quality, modern approaches to training of medical and pharmaceutical personnel, strengthening medical professional ethics, raising the social prestige of the medical profession and promoting healthy lifestyle.

The general meeting of the WFUMA board has elected as the President of the World Federation of Ukrainian Medical Societies vice-rector for scientific and academic work  of Danyl Galyckyi Lviv National Medical University, Professor Andriy Bazylevych. It was also decided to hold the next Congress in 2018 in Ternopil.
