Ternopil State Medical University scholars together with colleagues from Poland and Belarus submitted project proposals for Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020

On 21-22 December Ternopil State Medical University Professor Daria Kozak took part in the final meeting of the Cross Border Academy in Przemyśl  (Poland) to improve her application materials for Cross Border Cooperation Programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020. Administration of Ternopil State Medical University expresses thanks to Ternopil Regional Administration for inviting our scientists to participate in the seminars.

The training has proven to be extremely useful for Dr. Kozak, because together with scientists from Hrodna State University (Belarus) and the Pope John Paul II State School Of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska ( Poland) she has prepared a concept proposal for a study of lifestyle of various professional and social groups and the its impacts to their health. In addition tolearning steps needed to submit the concept, Dr. Kozak made new professional connections, developed new ideas allowing her to share these experiences with other TSMU researchers.

Immediately after the workshop, during  two days of 22-23 December, a delegation of Ternopil State Medical University consisting of head of the department of physical rehabilitation, health and physical education Professor Daria Kozak and assistant professor of the department infectious diseases and epidemiology Dr. Maria Shkilna, went on official visit to  the Pope John Paul II State School Of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska (Poland), where the parties signed the aforementioned concept notes.

This collaboration is the next step in the joint Ukraine-Poland projects “Physical activity, diet and  lifestyle of students of Ternopil medical university “ , “Physical activity, diet and  lifestyle of young people aged 15-17 in schools of Ternopil”, “Epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and prevention of borreliosis “, and  “Latent forms of tuberculosis in elderly and imprisoned population”, all of which had been initiated by our researchers in 2015 and have already resulted in joint publications.

On 23 December  TSMU delegation met with rector of the Pope John Paul II State School Of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska Professor Josef Berger, head of the Department of Projects International and European Funds Justyna Niewinska and assistant professor of microbiology, virology and immunology of Grodno State Medical University (Belarus) Tatiana Sokolova.

During the meeting they discussed potential collaborations of researchers from these schools not only within the Cross Border Cooperation Programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020, but also in joint research projects.

This work has resulted in the submission of three concept notes for the first call for proposals within the framework of Cross- Border Cooperation Programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020.

Also on 22-24 December head of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Rural Medicine in Lublin (Poland), Professor Alfred Ovoc came with working visit to Ternopil State Medical University. The goal of the visit was to discuss international cooperation to sign a joint concept note to submit to PL-BY-UA programme call.

Present at the meeting were vice rector for research and academic affairs, Professor Arkadii Shulgai, vice-rector for research, academic and clinical work, Professor Stepan Zaporozhan, vice-rector for research Professor Ivan Klisch, leaders of Ternopil State Medical University project teams: head of the department of Functional Diagnostics and Clinical Pathophysiology Maria Maruschak, assistant professor of pediatrics Svetlana Nykytyuk, assistant professor of infectious diseases Natalia Zavidnyuk and assistant professor of pediatrics Ihor Rohalskyi, manager of department of international relations Iulia Pochynok.

The meeting resulted signing of concept notes for two projects – “Prevention of dental caries in children and adolescents” and “Prevention of biological threats to health in the border area of Poland and Ukraine.”
