Ternopil State Medical University scientists took part in international scientific conference in Janów Podlaski, Poland

On May 19-20, a delegation of Ternopil State Medical University participated in V International scientific conference “Lifestyle and civilization diseases ” in Janów Podlaski, Poland. The delegation included vice-rector for research Professor Ivan Klisch, head of the department of physical rehabilitation, health and physical education professor Daria Popovich and assistant professor of pediatrics Svetlana Nikytyuk. The conference was organized by Pope John Paul II State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska and the Lublin Institute of Rural Medicine.

The conference began with a plenary meeting, opened by the Rector of State School of Higher Education in Biała Podlaska Professor Joseph Berger. Repors presentedduring the session included “Physical activity of Polish youth compared to global trends”, by Professor Edward Mleczko from the Academy of Physical Education in Krakow , and “Physical activity, diet and physical development of Ternopil State Medical University students” by Professors Joseph Berger and Daria Popovich.

The latter report is a result of joint Polish-Ukrainian projects “Physical activity, diet and lifestyle of students of medical university in Ternopil”, and “Physical activity, diet and lifestyle of young people aged 15-17 of Ternopil secondary schools”.

Dr. Klisch presented a study of his research group “Risk of borreliosis infection in forestry workers of Ternopil region (western Ukraine).” The study is aresult of a joint Ukrainian-Polish project “Research on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs and prevention of borreliosis.” The report generated a lively discussion.

 The conference program included breakout sessions, including “Physical activity and lifestyle”, “Food, nutrition and lifestyle” and “Contemporary diseases of civilization. The second day of the conference included poster presentations. Professor Daria Popovich and assistant professor Svitlana Nikytyuk presented their posters, “Physical activity among medical students of Ternopil, Ukraine” and “Awareness  of Ternopil medical and non-medical students about Lyme borreliosis”.

 The conference touched on important issues and helped the participants to map the next steps for future cooperation between scientists from different countries to study this area.
