The 8th National Research and Training Conference “Topical Issues of Higher Medical (Pharmaceutical) Education: Current Challenges and Prospects for Their Solution” at TNMU

On May 20-21, 2021, the 8th National and International Research and Training Conference “Topical Issues of Higher Medical (Pharmaceutical) Education: Current Challenges and Prospects for Their Solution” was held in I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. Due to the world pandemic and challenging epidemiological situation in the region, the meeting of scientists took place online.

Lead specialists from all over Ukraine, i.e. from Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipro, Chernivtsi, Lviv, and Odessa, took part in the scientific meeting. More than 100 participants were registered. During the meetings, 30 scientific reports were presented and discussed.

Professor Mykhaylo Korda, the Rector of TNMU, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences, welcomed the conference participants: “I congratulate everyone on today’s wonderful day, on the Ukrainian holiday – the Day of Embroidery. There are things in the culture of each nation that vividly reflect its unique national tradition; an embroidered shirt is such a symbol in Ukraine. It is very nice to see our online guests in beautiful embroidered shirts and dresses. I am grateful to all the participants of the conference who join our scientific meeting. As you remember, the forum of educators in medicine has been traditionally held in Ternopil for 18 years. Many of took part in the symposium, which was held at Chervona Kalyna; the representatives of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Testing Centre always joined it as well; we discussed topical issues and defined new tasks. Unfortunately, this year as well as in 2020, the conference was held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I really hope that next year we will all be vaccinated, the epidemic will subside and we will be able to meet again face to face, share experience, re-establish our friendship. I am grateful to all the participants of the scientific symposium for their active position and persistent work, I am glad you are with us today”.

Mykhaylo Mykhaylovych also noted that more than 260 research papers were submitted to the scientific forum, which were published in the conference proceedings “Topical Issues of Higher Medical (Pharmaceutical) Education: Current Challenges and Prospects for Their Solution “, and plenary reports will be published in our specialized journal “Medical Education”.

Professor Arkadii Shulhai, the Vice-Rector for Science and Education, Doctor of Medicine, also welcomed the participants. Arkadii Havrylovych wished everyone fruitful work, positive emotions from communication with colleagues, useful pastime and good health.

Andrii Mashtalir, the Head of the Academic Office, started the plenary sessions with the report on “Is Distance Learning a Compulsory Measure or a Demand of Our Time (the Case of TNMU)?”

Professor Yurii Kolesnyk, the Rector of Zaporizhzhia State Medical University, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, Associate Professor Svitlana Morhuntsova, the Vice-Rector for Science and Education, and Oleksii Ryzhov, the Head of the Department of Medical and Pharmaceutical Informatics and Advanced Technologies, Doctor of Pharmacy, presented a report on “Technology of transition to a mixed form of education at ZSMU”.

The report by Professor Tetiana Nikolaienko-Kamyshova, Doctor of Medicine of Dnipro State Medical University, on “Distance learning in the structure of continuous professional development of doctors – the levers of efficiency” was very interesting for the audience.

Professor Ihor Zavhorodnii, the Head of the Department of Hygiene and Ecology No. 2 of Kharkiv National Medical University, Doctor of Medicine, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine, expanded on “Pedagogical component of educational space of medical universities”.

Professor Oleksandra Tomashevska, Doctor of Medine, D. Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University, presented a report on “The Ukrainian medical language in academic process”.

Professor Anastasia Babintseva, Associate Professor of the Department of Paediatrics, Neonatology and Perinatal Medicine of Bukovyna State Medical University, Doctor of Medicine, presented the report on “Distance learning in the system of continuing professional development of neonatologists and child anaesthesiologists: current challenges” during the section meeting.

Professor Oleksandr Volosovets, the Head of the Department of Pediatrics No. 2 of Bogomolets National Medical University, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, congratulated Professor Mykhaylo Korda, the Rector of TNMU, on being awarded with the Order of Merit and wished him prosperity, success, reaching the goals and inspiration for new achievements. Olexandr Petrovych expanded on a workshop as a modern innovative technology for training paediatricians and family doctors.

Professor Leonid Hryshchuk, Doctor of Medicine, the Department of Internal Medicine Propedeutics and Phthisiology, Head of the Tuberculosis Course of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, presented the report on “Teaching TB to international students during the quarantine”.

The report by Associate Professor Iryna Malanchyn, the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology No. 1 of TNMU, on “Peculiarities of pedagogical training by employees of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology No. 1” was very interesting for the participants of the conference.

Professor Ihor Mysula, the Head of the Department of Medical Rehabilitation of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Doctor of Medicine, expanded on “Experience of distant clinical practice of physical therapists”.

All reports of the scientific meeting are contained within the collection of conference materials. The participants of the event noted the high level of organization and technical support of the online forum. They appreciated a constructive dialogue and sharing experience during the conference.
