The First Twenty Emergency Medicine Experts from Seven Regions Completed Their Simulation Training Course

The first group of 20 emergency medicine experts from seven regions of Ukraine completed their offline training in the form of simulation trainings of the course for instructors of the departments of emergency medical care and disaster medicine centres, which was organized by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with the support of the World Bank as part of a large-scale educational project in the system of emergency medical care.


“The second group of twenty trainees has already started to master the course “Instructor for providing pre-hospital care”. A total of 100 future instructors will undergo such trainings over the course of five months, and the next stage will be an online course for all medical workers of emergency medical aid and disaster medicine centres throughout Ukraine. After that, practical trainings will begin on the basis of educational and training departments of these centres, which will be conducted by instructors trained in the first stage. It is important that the beginning of their work in the new role of instructors will be accompanied on the ground by the trainers who developed and implement this course. Therefore, almost 25,000 emergency medicine specialists throughout Ukraine will improve their pre-hospital care skills,” Deputy Minister of Health Iryna Mykychak says.

By the format of the course, the total duration of training is 200 hours, during which lectures, seminars and practical classes are combined with mastering of practical skills and competencies in simulation tasks.

The training is also aimed at mandatory training of instructor skills in teaching practical skills and in evaluating the work of the leader and the team (field team) in simulated clinical scenarios.


The list of skills acquired by trainees in the training process includes 78 items, including: how to deal with aggressive patients with acute mental disorders, how to conduct primary and secondary medical sorting when providing emergency medical aid during emergency situations with a large number of victims, in particular in conditions aggressive and stressful situation.

The list of acquired new competencies consists of 36 items, including how to carry out resuscitation measures in conditions of limited personnel resources.

At the end of the course, all participants passed the final exam. 70% have a high score, which gives them the right to be instructors in providing pre-hospital care for workers in emergency medical centres and disaster medicine. The rest of the trainees will be able to take the exam again within the next two months.

According to the results of the initial questionnaire, the average rating of the course by the participants according to a 10-point scale is 8.89 points. The average rating of the level of work of the instructors is 9.0 points out of 10. All trainees will recommend this course to colleagues.

The course is organized on the basis of the Centre for Medical Simulation of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. Training is conducted by 9 highly professional instructors, among whom 7 specialists are members of the NGO “All-Ukrainian Council for Resuscitation and Emergency Medical Care” and instructors of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC).
