The Scientists of TSMU Participated in the II Central Eastern European Conference “Approaches to Efficient Diagnostics and Treatment of Alpha-1-Antitrypsin Deficiency”

In the end of October the II Central Eastern European Conference “Approaches to Efficient Diagnostics and Treatment of Alpha-1-Antitrypsin Deficiency” took place in Warsaw. The scientists from Poland, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Lithuania, Romania, Bulgaria, Belarus and Ukraine presented their reports during it. Ukrainian delegation consisted of scientists from Kyiv and Ternopil. Professor Leonid Hryshchuk and Associate Professor Volodymyr Horodetskyi represented I.Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University.

During the conference meetings with leading scientists of Europe on this matter and with the chairman of the conference organizing committee Professor Joanna Chorostowska-Wynimko were held. The further cooperation in the study of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency was agreed.

Five sessions were held during the conference. The participants discussed topical issues of current European strategy on this matter, diagnostic and therapeutic experience of some European centers. The discussion on various clinical manifestations of alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency and definite differential diagnosis determination involved many researchers. A long-term replacement therapy in cases of this disorder and treatment of complications still remain urgent matters. During an interactive section theoretical and clinical aspects of alpha-1- antitrypsin deficiency were summarized.
