TNMU Completed the Implementation of the “Improving Health Care at the Service of People” Project

Ternopil National Medical University has completed the implementation of the project “Improving Health Care at the Service of People” of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine with the support of the World Bank. The training lasted 8 weeks – from January 15 to March 9, 2024. Two more universities took part in the implementation of this program, in particular O. Bohomolets National Medical University and Bukovyna State Medical University. 720 medical specialists had a chance to be trained by the instructional teams of three universities, 300 of whom acquired and mastered practical skills at TNMU Centre for Medical Simulation.

The training concerned the education of medical personnel on the main issues of providing EMC to patients of different age groups in case of emergencies and injuries. The duration of each cycle was 6 days (4 modules): the theoretical part (seminars/lectures in small groups – 10 hours) and the development of practical skills and work in clinical simulation scenarios (in the format of simulation training – 40 hours). The training was divided into thematic blocks: “Management of a critical patient and advanced resuscitation measures in adults”, “Management of a critical patient and advanced resuscitation measures in children”, “Management of a critical patient with trauma”, “Work organization and features of providing care in the EMC department in emergencies situations, including those with a large number of casualties”.

300 participants (120 doctors and 180 nurses) from 37 clinics in 11 regions of Ukraine, including Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiiv, Odesa, Ternopil, Lviv, Volyn, Khmelnytskyi, were trained at TNMU.

The instructor group that implemented the project included Halyna Tsymbaliuk (project coordinator), Antonina Chervatiuk, Yuriy Denisyuk, Nargiz Dzavadova (project administrator), Roman Huk, Olha Dutchak, Alina Pokryshko, Emilia Burbela. In addition, pre-hospital care instructors from the educational and training departments of the Centre for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine were involved: Khmelnytskyi (Yulia Vdovychenko, Bohdan Levandovskyi), Volyn (Viktoria Vynarska, Olena Hrushetska), Rivne (Bohdan Fostiak, Oleksandr Cheredaryk), Cherkasy (Andrii Yurov, Yevhen Mariukhenia ), Chernivtsi (Nazar Polataiko), Vinnytsia (Olena Volovyk, Liudmyla Pavlenko), Odesa (Oleksandra Misiura, Maria Yakovyshyn), as well as employees of the Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Centre for Emergency Medical Aid and Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (Olha Biloshytska).

Specialists of TNMU Centre for Medical Simulation Anastasia Novosad, Oleh Kosinskyi, Laboratory Assistant of the department Vitalii Sukhyi helped in the implementation of this project.
