TNMU Conference Joined General Practitioners of Family Medicine from all over Ukraine

On December 16-17, 2021, an International Scientific Symposium “Urgent issues of functional disorders of the digestive system and comorbidity in general medicine, features of pharmaceutical care” was held at I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University. The event was organized by the Department of Therapy and Family Medicine of TNMU and the NGO “Association of Family Medicine of Ternopil Region”.

The meeting took place online and joined scientists from different parts of Ukraine and the world: Lviv, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odessa, Mykolaiv, Lutsk, Uzhhorod, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Prague (Czech Republic). During the meetings 29 scientific reports were presented and discussed as well as 5 master classes.

Professor Ivan Klishch, the Vice-Rector for Research of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Doctor of Sciences, welcomed the participants on behalf of the university administration.

Ivan Mykolayovych stressed the urgency of the conference, drew attention to the need to study the peculiarities of pharmaceutical care, wished success and fruitful work to the participants of the scientific meeting and congratulated everyone on the upcoming Christmas holidays.

Olha Yarmolenko, the Head of the Health Department of Ternopil Regional State Administration, joined the congratulations, and noted that the key task of medical education today is development of students’ thinking and wished fruitful and productive work.

The plenary session was started by Professor Lilia Babinets, the Head of the Department of Therapy and Family Medicine of TNMU. She congratulated the participants of the scientific meeting, wished success and presented the report “Functional digestive disorders according to the Roman criteria-IU: diagnostic standards, comprehensive treatment options”.

Professor Natalia Huberhritz, MD, President of the Ukrainian Club of Pancreatologists, presented the report on “Deadly quartet (pathology of the digestive system in metabolic syndrome)”.

Professor Lukian Andriiuk, the Head of the Department of Rehabilitation and Alternative Medicine of the Faculty of Postgraduate Education of D. Halytskyi Lviv National Medical University, expanded on fasting as a stress-relieving and effective therapy that copes with many chronic diseases.

Associate Professor Pavto Kolesnyk, the Head of the Department of Family Medicine and Outpatient Care, Director of the Training Centre for Family Medicine and Medical Care of Uzhgorod National University, presented a report on “Fatty liver disease on the background of metabolic syndrome. Evidential steps in patient management. Analysis of a clinical case”.

The report by Andriy Dorofieiev, Professor of the Department of Therapy of P. Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine, on “Intestinal disorders in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic” was really interesting for the participants of the conference.

Professor Natalia Banadyha, the Head of the Department of Paediatrics, Faculty of Postgraduate Education, TNMU, in her presentation drew the attention of the audience to the issues of ensuring adequate nutritional needs of children with food allergies to cow milk protein.

The report by Professor Olena Samohalska, the Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy of I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, on “Peculiarities of pain syndrome in functional pathology of the digestive system” was of an urgent issue.

Professor Yelyzaveta Sirchak, the Head of the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine, Uzhhorod National University, expanded on “The relationship between intestinal microflora and the hepatobiliary system, their correction”.

The report by Professor Bohumil Seifert, Department of General Practice, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, on “Management of functional gastrointestinal disorders in primary care” was very interesting to the conference participants.

Professor Nadiia Yarema, Department of Internal Medicine No. 1, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, expanded on Fabry disease in cardiac practice.

During the master class, Ihor Lopukh, Associate Professor of the Department of Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Endoscopy of P. Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine, presented a report on “Algorithm of Gastroenterological Examination for Iron Deficiency Anemia”.

A master class on “Outpatient appointment. Counselling of a patient with dyspepsia” was presented by Iryna Borovyk, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy and Family Medicine, TNMU.

Professor Ivan Katerenchuk, the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 2 and Occupational Diseases of Poltava State Medical University presented the report on “Comorbid conditions in patients on dialysis: the possibilities for prevention and therapy by a family doctor”.

The report “Hypertension and Comorbidity: A Review of Current Recommendations” was presented by Nadiia Yarema, Professor of the Department of Internal Medicine No. 1, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University.

The presentation by Lilia Babinets, Professor of TNMU, on “Comorbid conditions in general practice: the possibility of additional correction of concomitant functional disorders” was of great scientific interest.

Oleksandr Moshchych, Professor of the Department of Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology, Audiology and Phoniatrics of P. Shupyk National University of Health of Ukraine, expert of the State Expert (Pharmacological) Centre of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine presented the report on “Modern bioregulatory drugs in comorbid pathology in family practice”.

Professor Ihor Hospodarskyi, the Head of the Department of Higher Nursing Education, Patient Care and Clinical Immunology of TNMU, expanded on approaches to immunocorrection in patients with acute upper respiratory tract infections.

Professor Lilia Todoriko, the Head of the Department of Tuberculosis and Pulmonology of Bukovynian State Medical University, reported on “Problematic issues of inflammation in SARS-Cov-2, prevention of thrombosis in post-COVID syndrome”.

During the conference, Vadym Teryoshyn, Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Kharkiv National Medical University, presented a report on “Significance of zinc in prevention of respiratory viral infections: evidence-based medicine and the point of view of international experts”.

Zoia Mandzii, Associate Professor of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University presented the report on “Hepato-lien syndrome – a milestone of Gaucher disease”.

Svitlana Levytska, Professor of the Department of Paediatric Surgery and Otolaryngology of Bukovyna State Medical University, presented a report and a master class on “Sore Throat: Fifty Shades of Red”.

During the master class, Yurii Andreichyn, Professor of the Department of Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology and Neurosurgery, I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University, presented a report on “Diagnosis and treatment of exudative otitis”.

Ophthalmologist Kateryna Radioha expanded on a red eye in the practice of a family doctor during a master class.

Professor Lilia Babinets summed up the work of the plenary and sectional sessions, expressed thanks to the university administration for their assistance and all conference participants for their fruitful and creative work.

The format of the videoconference allowed the participants not only presenting their scientific achievements, but also was a platform for scientific discussion, joint watching and fruitful discussion of video clips and presentations.
